Hi guys, I recently purchased a VL Berlina Turbo Donor car, to transplant the driveline into my Vk Calais!.. now, i got quoted $2000 for the conversion plus wiring..
i say, stuff that! i want to do it myself with my mate, hes pretty mechanical minded.... i want to save money also.. our main concern is what is going to be the main problems encountered? Eg: the vl radiator is the oposite side with hoses, and wont fit apparantly? What do we need to do? Engine mounts? will the trans tally up? tailshaft? shortend or what? vl vk diff the same?..
And what would be the best idea with the dashes, ECU, etc? is the wiring fairly straight forward if i just take the brain out of the VL.. atleast its all there..let me know guys.. i need your advice.. i dont wana get ripped with the conversion..
Remove the whole assemby from the front crossmember, steering rack, strut towers, brakes engine and install it as is on the VK. Radiator from the VL should slide intot he VK.
Also swap over the VL steering column.
As far as wiring goes why not unplug your existing wiring and transfer dash the lot over to the VK, no wiring required everything should be plug in plug out.
Depending on if the VK is EFI or not you will need to do the fuel return line, put the VL tank in along with the VL fuel pump.
cheers
Scott
