Hi..
Very curious as to what others thoughts are on my missus VH...
Only started overheating recently, even after a 5 minute run... Shuddering in 1st and 2nd (auto trans).... Over revving on start up, heading up over the 3000 mark...
Basically what im looking for is some other more experienced holden enthusiasts thoughts on possible issues, we have come up with Auto either needs major servicing (fludi levels been checked) is going or is gone.... Overheating... Possible water pump??? Over revving... Its also on LPG which was recently completely redone. Was running great, other than mild gear change issues that went away when the car had warmed up....
is your clutch fan working proply? is the fluid level right in the trans mine was doing that in first gear checking it wilst its running? over reving sounds like a carby issue
Getting your trans serviced ( fluid, filter ) should help and maybe auto choke with the over rev or even throttle cable ( sticking )
We got rep back, yaaay!
check your timing and sprk plug gap.
two majorly overlooked items when it comes to overheating. retarded timng will make your car significantly hotter, and coupled with poor gaps will cook it.
thatd be the first and easiest thing to check.
obviously check that your fan is spinning and water is flowing. but if the car is shuddering, then it will prolly be a cylinder down.
i dont think a transmission can really ause an overheat, but meh. stranger things have happened
edit* overevving on startup? what carby is on it? quadrajet? heat pipe choke or electric? disengage that f**ker. wrap a zip tie around the mechanism so the butterfly for the choke is locked ope. it may be playing up and the fast idle on these things can be a pain. of course if you do that then the choke wont work in the morning.
p.s. you checked that your thermostat is working, right?
