yeah i have the boss adapter thingo for my steering wheel i ran the wire through the hole to the button i left plenty of length for it to move around but it still cut threw the installation of the wire, luckly the positive side was not connected other wise my horn would have been earthed to the car leving the horn on 24/7 haha..
do you guys know where the wire has to run so it wont get damaged or as damaged?
how to guide some where?
thanks for your help i did post another topic but no one seemed to seen it haha

you should have taken the orange thing of a standard steering wheel and screwed it onto your boss kit meaning you wouldnt have to of ***ed around with the wiring
get a standard steering wheel on the back there is a orange plastic bit that has the metal contact on it that can be unscrewed and screwed onto your boss kit emliminating wiring mods
Just another quick fix would be to mount a separate switch somewere to stop the short.
A similar thing happened to my VL, the horn was shortin in the colomn, so i retracted the horn wire an mounted a switch. No horn on steerin wheel but mounted very handy.![]()

thanks guys, im gonna go to pick a part tonight have a look because i dont have any original wires coming from the relay (that i cant see) so i have to run one wire though the colomn it is just one wire that goes to the relay from the horn, the horn is earthed.

good luck mate
well if you get the horn ring like v8 commy said you wont need to run any wires. plus you are never gonna run a wire to your horn, that just being silly. the horn ring consists of a ring of brass and two graphite tangs that contact each other while the steering wheel is spun around. if you run a wire its just gonna get cut once you turn your wheel full lock. or itll tangle up in amongst your indicator assembly and create a sh1t storm.
if you dont have a ring, you wont have a horn. period. the only other answer has also been suggested which is to mount a switch somewhere and use that as a horn. which is perfectly legal. the horn does not have to be on the wheel to be rwc as long as it is a single tone horn and works, itll pass.
good luck![]()
well i got that ring thing cant get my boss kit off though. so even if i have the ring the wire running from the relay is still going to move around and get tangled int he indicator assembly though yeah? i dont understand why getting the ring is going to make much of a difference when the wire is still going to spin around ect keeping in mind the orignal horn wires are not there...
thanks for all the help guys
(do you know where i can buy a tool to get boss kit off?)

the idea of taking the horn ring off the stock steer wheel is that you will not need a wire. the horn ring is your wire.
you know what? just hook up a switch to use your horn. i have had way too much beer to explain it tonight.
Steerin wheel remover from any Auto shop m8. They are easy to use an cheap.![]()

aww and just so you dont look like you dont know what your talking about when you get one its called a steering wheel puller
i got the steering wheel remover thing but doesnt work going to bunnings to get some nits cause i have an idea.. still dont get the ring thing though it has 2 terminals on it that face towards the driver... no wire the can go ther other way!

the horn ring screws to the back of the boss kit, there is a metal bit you will see on the column before you put the boss kit on that contacts the horn ring (which faces away from you and towards the metal bit). Being a full circle, wherever the steering is, the horn is always powered. You will still need an earth wire which will go to the horn button. When you press the horn button, it completes the circuit and the horn sounds. (Don't know if getting nits will help either)
yes the nuts help me get the boss kit off i have drawn a little diagram witch is how i think the circuit works tell me if this is rite also i got the plastic thing and wires...
the first picture is a diagram i did my self the it is only missing the original horn and the link i know how to wire it what i wanted to make sure that the ring thing is correct and all that!!
the horn has a spring on it witch is earthed to boss kit i buzzed it with multimeter so i only have to use one wire thats all buzzed and A okay!
all i need to know is what color is the wire coming from that spring loaded thingo?
thanks for help guys let me know what you think and if it is correct then i can put horn in =D

yep. your drawing is spot on. the horn works off being earthed so has battery + connected to the other side of the relay.
so to clarify; the relay has 4 conections, 1. horn button-2. battery + .... 3. battery constant-4. horn
make sense?
yes it does tomoro i will be re wiring the hole thing.. well finding the original wire for that button and wiring it up hopfully wont be much trouble taking out that piece of interior where the fuses and relays are held i herd it was haha... and now that i have that plastic thingo on my kit i dont have to flick my indicator off =D
(anyone know what the purple and black wire is for under column? it fell out i think no idea where it goes)
took me a while to put that bolt back on to hold boss kit on, it striped so i had to file and shamfer it for ages hahaha
thank you everyone for the help 5 stars =D
