Default Can the automatic insert be revoved from the center consel

I have just converted my Auto 6 Cyl VC to a manual by installing a Celica Steel Box. Quick question can the automatic insert be removed from the consel without too much difficulity. I am considering just leaving the space vacant where the gear stick pokes though. The manual inserts are like rocking horse dung ( substitute for s**t). Also anyone have any leads as to where to obtain a shift boot. The aftermarket ones just wont stretch over the floor plate opening. I live in Penrith NSW.

You have to have the hole sealed, you'll get knocked back at rego time if it is not. You could allways make a cover out of sheet metal to bridge the gap to an aftermarket boot.

Have u got the proper manual floor plate (the one riveted in)?

I got a floor plate out the back, also got a set of rubber boots as well. If ya interested, PM me an offer. Also might even have a manual console, but I rekon it has a few chips and cracks in it.

    Hi Stealthy

Yes these inserts seem to be able to fit into a common console. Looking at my automatic console it seems that he inserts simply press in. Owing to the age of the plastic I would assume its fairly brittle and easily breakable. So far another member may have a rubber boot to offer. I have rivited the floor plate into the hole. I got it off EBay. The cutout is too bit for aftermarket boots. Was hoping someone could suggest a way of removing the console insert without breaking it. By the way my console is tan coloured.

Maybe someone can jump in and offer an opinion as to whether your manual insert will fit my VC console. Otherside I will just fit the boot over the plate and have a space where the insert fits.

    Thanks again one and all

Hi Ray, I got ur email. I got another night shift 2night, and I'll try hunting down the rubber boot 2morrow. I rekon I got a split boot and a good boot, not sure but I'll have a looksy 2morrow.

I think the manual and auto inserts can be changed over (but as u mentioned they will be brittle and probably break), I'll have a look at that 2morrow as well coz I got my manual console and got a few auto ones around the place too.

The inserts can definitely be changed, cause i tried it in my Auto console before i converted the car to manual. Never put it in because it wouldn't fit because i had a V6 and 5 speed in it.

What i wasn't sure of is if a VC console is the same shape as a VK console, since i've never owned anything older than a VK.
