Default Just a reminder as to why u should change ur oil ;)

This isnt a commodore but it all looks the same and being older cars this is alot more common to see. All this should be as clean as the cam lobes, this junk gets into every oil gallery and wears down alot of things. Nothing like a visual display

Its my mums 2001 Kia Rio engine, 20,000 kms on the same oil, about 1000kms a week. It didnt run very nice, after the oil change and a clean out (took a while trust me) it was gravy.

Change ur oil and no one gets hurt!

I realise that the long oil change interval is the main issue, but do you know what oil she was running in the engine?

i hate kia's worst cars ever made their v6 engines have these weird sleeves instead of pots so you cant re head them and the whole inside of the the block around the sleeve is a water jacket!

also we had one in at work who had no oil in it and it was gunna cost the bloke 6g for a new engine! :O
    Eureka styles!

well my VH that i had done 8 years without a service... yea 8 years. Now that was bad, couldnt even see the valve springs they looked like solid cylinders.

The kia ran good oil but it gets used a shitload, also it does 3000rpm at 100kph so its getting a workout. 1000kms a week at mostly 3000rpm oil wont last.

I thought it was pretty disgusting actually, ive seen WAY worse but for a 2001 model car the sludge wasnt good. Should have seen my V8, the oil that came out of it after changes would be better than new cheap oil . So clean inside you could eat out of it if u didnt mind the taste of CLEAN oil

Well it might not be good for a 2001 model but it's still pretty clean, I took at least 2 litres of sludge out of just the valley and rockers from my 304 (1992). Could have perhaps been 3 litres plus. It was ALOT , over 1cm thick in alot of places and more than 3mm thick everywhere. We had a blue 202 once that was worse that my 304 too

hmmm, no additives in that oil somewhere?

i changed oil on a jap import once, which clearly had a buch of different additives in it. anyway long story short, the oil came out in glugs like off milk and clogged up the mesh in my oil catch tank

had to stick my hand in there and stir it round till it all drained out. not fun. im gonna find the old owner of that car and shake him till he stops moving.

i have been told as soon as it starts to change colour from golden to brown or black that's when, is that correct? also i check my car every second day just to be safe, is that to much? how often should you look under the bonnet? some of my friends don't even know where the release is to open it is.

Once a week or there abouts, check engine and transmission oil (if its auto) brake fluid, water and look for any obvious damage or leaks. That whole process will take about 5 minutes. And don't forget tyre pressure every couple of times you go to fill up at the servo. A lot of problems can be reduced or avoided all together if something is picked up early enough.

What brand of oil are you using and how long have you used it for? In my first car, a starfire Commodore, the previous owner had been running Valvoline XLD for about 3 years. he had changed it every 5000K's. When I got it I replaced the tappet cover gasket and noticed there was a huge amount of carbon build up. I used Castrol GTX 2 after that. About 18 months later I had the tappet cover off again and noted it was clean as with no carbon build up.

I run Mobil 1 in all my current cars, the Barina is on 15000km changes and the SS and Vh are on 10000km changes all are nice and clean inside.

Not sure that was done at a proper service place so i have no idea. Lol its actually got Valvoline XLD atm in it which isnt great. If it was up to me it would have Penrite in it but she doesnt see the point unlike us blokes haha.

And that alloytec earlier is incredibly dirty! such a new engine too

not true, apparently new oils are designed to pick up all the crap in the engine and make it not harm everything so some oils turn black within a day. If its solid black and terribly gritty then yea oils old get rid of it. If u do it to how many kms uve driven then there shouldnt be a problem cause oil can be deceiving.

And u can pop the bonnet as much as u want and its good that u stay on top of ur fluids. My bro killed his VN cause he didnt check it at all until it was misfiring all over the place then he would yell me over to fix it. Dry dipstick was the first sign haha. He knew to top up the coolant when steam flew out of the bonnet and the gauge was past the red

hahah that alloytec, when i was working for holden, we had a ve omega that was thrashed with 60,000 kms on it..came in for its first service...me being the 1st year apprentice..i went to drain the oil and nothing came out...then i realised i had to poke a screw driver through the sludge and let the oil drain..oil filter looked the same as that in the picture, umm, what else..oh yes, had to take the sump off and clean that....very messy job, put muck n guck n shit everywhere haha....paiste 402, did you say ur oil came out better then a new cheap oil..i hope that oil came out dirty, otherwise ur oil system aint doin it's job haha

You guys should see a Heavy diesel engine after it gets run over its service interval, the oil is practically tar, and under the rocker cover is just full of hard carbon everywhere except around moving parts.
