im slowly going through a v6 converstion with my vk. and i was going to put the tailshaft together today made from 2 different tail shafts. the first being the vn manual one, and the second being a vl auto one. because im putting a borgwarner into my vk as it has a salisbury at the moment, i was going to use the vl rear section as it should be the correct length that i require.
the problem i have come accross is that the centre section is different between the two tailshafts when i was led to believe they would be the same and its a simple bolt up job. are there any vk or vl borg warner tail shafts that are the larger diameter here: ?
i cant remember exactly what the measurements were, but the difference between the vn and vl ones was about 3-5mm. not huge in the grand scheme of things, but enough to stop them from bolting up together.
thanks
btw. would it be of any use to the just commodores community if i did a "how to replace your tailshafts centre bearing" writeup?
When I tried to mate a M76 front with a VL rear, it didn't work coz the VL tailshaft was slightly larger in diameter. So I bought a tailshaft out of a VK with a borg warner diff in it (the tailshaft was slightly smaller then the VL tailshaft in diameter). Bolted up no probs to the M76 front.

There's a place in Adelaide that shortens tailshafts (I'm sure there is a few) which is pretty good on price. Can't remember the name tho, but my mate was telling me the other week as he uses them a lot. Might have been around the $150 mark. Might be seeing him 2day, if so I'll get a name for ya.
