If you're gunna go VT Thermos I heard the series 1 V8 ones are the go. I researched a little myself a while back and the V8 ones were mentioned several times by several people. If I had the time now I'd try find the links for you.

i have installed commodore dual thermo's on my mates HQ one tonner, dual falcon's on his 76' galaxie and dual craig davies 18" on my own vk....

unless you got a badass alternator, dont... problems galore with the voltage drain. my car actually ran hotter with duals cos' the voltage would drop down to 8v and the fans were not spinning fast enough to suck enough air through the radiator.

had to go an' get a 140A alternator, now she runs sweet. the falcon and commodores were worse. they sucked a minimum 60A and the factory alternator on a V8 VK is 55A, so go do the maths. if your in traffic with your radio blaring, lights on, wipers on and heater going you might even stall when the volts drop far enough.

P.S. none of them "fit" you have to cut a bit out of the shroud, but its an arvo's work.

Thanks guys for your help!!! Do you get any benefit from the thermo fans, or should i just go with the clutch fan or the normal fan?.......I just want to have a tidy engine bay,and to have something different....Cheers Jason

there is a noticable power gain from ditching your clutch fan. the enigne note changes completely and having thermos constantly going sounds KEWL. but you gotta seriously take the amperage into consideration bro.

also, changing cams with thermos is considerably easier cos' you just undo your top and bottom rad hoses, take the two retaining clips off and out she comes. mind you i have remote trans cooling, so you may have to undo that whic is a pain also, but yeah, story for nother day.

in summary; i love my thermos, they sound great and 'free-up' the engine revs slightly, but triple check their current draw. i wouldnt go falcon or late commo duals personally but they do have really nice shrouds. but 60A constant draw will kill your battery eventually. craig davies 18" draw 20A each, which means if you have a good 60A alternator you will be fine for a while, but you will need to install them 'offest' i.e. one higher than the other to cover the entire surface of your radiator. otherwise you will get hot spots and eventually pop a row out of your radiator.

oh yeah and if you go thermos ditch the trans cooling too and grab a remote on from the wrecker off an EL falcon. cos the heat from the trans fluid may just be enough to send you over the half way mark.

oh, and bear in mind that if your volts drop below 12.5 you will have lost what little power gain thermo's would give you. reason being that your coil needs a constant 12.5 to deliver a nice white spark. any less and the plugs dont work to their full extent.

so yeah, once again i reiterate. dont go thermos unless you are looking at getting a better alternator. the stock one is 55A, i got a new 60A for 280 bucks which wasnt good enough, then went for a 220 dollar 140A powermaster.

the ef?el will fit with a bit of work.
i run twin thermos out of a late model mondeo, they're slim and fit up very easily, they keep it cool nicely even on stupidly hot days, if you get the correct temp switch they'll cycle on and off rather than stay on all the time. use a relay for each fan and a separate terminal for each of the two power wires.
