    Unhappy Engine removal thoughts

    Hey guys and gals,

    I have recently come in to ownership of two VH Commodores (cost me $500) the engine seems to be in not so great shape in the main car, its a 202 Red motor, i have another 202 Red motor sitting in my EK Ute and i was thinking of doing a swap over, but then i came to thinking, would it be possible to unbolt the top half of the engine and use it on the VH, the carby also seems quite rough on the VH and id like to use the utes carb, it has a choke though, what options do i have here? do i have to put a choke in the VH or is there an easier option? any help would be appreciated

    i love reading over what i wrote in a drunken state the night before *sigh* im such a smart arse, and i apologise.

    when you say "it has a choke" do you mean it has a manual choke? what type of carby is it? EFI only started in the VK correct? so i assume the VH is carby. why not just change all but the carbys. while they are off stick a 'fuel miser' kit through it and clean it up.

    i couldnt really give you advice without knowing the condition of the engine first. have you checked/changed;

    spark plugs
    leads
    dizzy cap
    oil and filter
    air filter
    petrol filter

    sprayed a good amount of carby cleaner in?
    checked the screw/bolts on the carb are tight? (they loosen after a while)
    checked the timing

    a general bolts check;
    inlet manifold
    exhaust manifold
    carby to inlet
    sump
    oil pump
    rocker cover

    checked that your alternator drive belt is tight
    air cond/power steer belts if you have them.

    checked radiator fluid and visually inspect radiator for leaks?
    check trans fluid if auto, check the fittings to the radiator.

    lol, looks like you have your work cut out for you. but all that stuff shouldnt take too long. once its done then you can get a better idea of the condition of the iside of the engine, since all the outside bases are covered.
