Hi i have a 84 vk calais and i am putting in a vn v8 and t700 auto in. I already have a crs cross member and speedo cable suit. I was wondering what tail shaft would fit in. I was hoping that i could get a front section from the wreckers to bolt up. Any help appreciated
as far as i know all VK's were fitted with trimatic pattern, so the tailshaft needs to be shortened and the turbo spline needs to be welded on. you could prolly look around for a VB or similar with a turbo trans and just use that. it would prolly be alot easier and cheaperbut i am not sure if the yolks are the same,
vb turbo pattern have 10 bolt big salisburys? im not sure.
would i be able to use a t700 crossmember on a t350?
I asked a mate some questions about the trans for my conversion and here's wat he told me. To start with, the T700's are crap, get a T350. The T350 will bolt up to the EFI block (obviously), and ya can use the trimatic tailshaft coz the boxes are pretty much the same size. And coz it's smaller ya can also run manual steering and also have more clearance for the exhaust. Commodores have a 2nd set of mounting holes for the trans crossmember, use the standard trimatic crossmember and mount it in the 2nd holes and it fits the turbo boxes.
So a lot of the custom work involved when dropping an EFI 304 in ur car can be cut out if u change to a T350.

yes im so happy then so i dont have to get a new tailshaft yet? or get a different crossmember? is the 2nd set of holes visible or do you have to scrape some shit off?
bump to my last post
I already have the turbo 700 and everything except the tail shaft for the conversion. I know the auto arn't the most reliable it you give them a hard time but i want the 4 speed for the better fuel economy.

Thanks i will look for one on the weekend.
Trimatic tailshaft looks a tad too long when you fit it up to the car so use the th700 front half with your back half.
My trimatic shaft fitted up to the car with the yoke practically bottoming out in th700,I reckon it would chew out the front uni or centre bearing if not damage the auto if you used it.
Thanks gtrboyy. nice torana
