Hi Guys I was just wondering if the diff ratios are better or worse or the same from these 2 models vc sle disc diff and the vh v8 disc diff as I have both here just wanna know which would be the better one to put in the sle cheers
Wat ratios are they? Wat do the plates say?
Are they 8 or 10 bolts?

Just checked them out
vc sle 10 bolt no plate
vh v8 10 bolt no plate looks to have been tampered with silicon around the seal
turn the crown wheel on both diff's it will say the the ratio the higher the ratio (the shorter the gears) the better
Knock the back plate off and have a look inside, look at the condition of the teeth, gear ratio, colour of oil etc.

Just thought I'd ask, how did u determine they were a 10 bolt? Ya didn't count the bolts on the back of the back plate did ya?
Also, I meant the compliance plates....if they are original diffs, they'll tell ya wat gearing they are. But yeah other then that ya can only pull the back plate off and check the markings on the crown wheel.

if it is a 10 bolt one side of the backing plate will be shaped like a football

ah yes, big salisbury and little salisbury...not big 10 and little 10... apologies![]()
the 6cyl SLE fitted with heavy duty suspension also had the 10bolt diffs.
if you have a look at the steel collar that sits around the input yoke it may have the diff ratio stanmped on it.
failing that remove the rear cover and rotate the crown wheel untill the numbers on the crown wheel appears, it should have the ratio stamped on it. failing that count the teeth.
diff ratio also depends on the engine and trans combo the car came with. for example the SLE with trimatic came with a 2.6:1 diff ratio, great for cruising but crap for a quick take off.

My VB SLE 253 trimatic had 2.78. Scrapped them for 3.23 (borg warner VK diff)....was ALOT better.
