    Default VN diff

Hey guys, just had the idea of using a vn diff in the vh as it is a much stronger unit.

problem is that the track is about half an inch wider on each side. is this to much with my 18 x 8 wheels?

is it possible to shorten the housing and use the vh axles to get the right width?

one of the bonus's is it will give rear disc brakes.

has any one done or heard of this conversion?

    would appreciate any help..

umm, at the risk of sounding stoopid, isnt the VN IRS? also, another thought, it is borg warner yeah? so why not use a VL diff?

    Nah VN's aren't IRS.

The VN diff is 28 spline tho, and the VL diff is 25 spline (unless it's a turbo or 5.0L diff which them would make it 28 spline). But if ur gonna use a VL diff, u may as well track down a VK borgy diff which is also 25 spline, but has less track again. Get a VN diff and pinch the brakes off of it for the VK diff.

VL diffs regularly comep for $600-800 its going t be cheaper to do that tha use th VN dff.

Other option is as the others have said VK or VL borgie housing, VN centre the use VL turbo or VL v8 axels which will fit no worries. Thats going o be the cheapest option of building one up. Ifyou want to g all out insta a KAZZ centre or detroit truetrack cente and go 31 spline axels

    cheers

They can but is a tad too wide, tyres will scrub on the rear quarters.

i use a vn diff in my vh race car with comm cup wheels and flares ,tyres would be sitting about 40 mm outside the guard. vl diff 10mm wider than vk .,VN 40mm wider again.might fit if use some later model wheel with positive offset.

just found a really useful site that had a lot of info.
apparently, the vn rear track is 1478mm, the vh is 1416, and vl is 1433mm.
the vn mounts are in the right place but the length is just too long and would need shortening alot.
the vl diff which is slightly stronger than the vh diff, is useable, as it only about 7 or 8 mm wider each side. with rolled gaurds this would not be a problem.
thanks heaps everyone for their help

I am running a VNV8 LSD in my VB.
It is about 60mm wider then the standard VB. I have super low springs but have the standard 15 x 6 alloys. I have seen photos of a VL with a VN diff running 19s on another site. It would depend a lot on the offset and profile of your wheels/tyres if you are going to have problems.

It bolts up but u need to get a disc brake hand brake cable. I used a VNV8 tailshaft that i got shortened.
