Hey All,
I am going to go on the search for an electronic dizzy to replace the current EST system that is set up in my vk wagon.
I Have found one on ebay that says it suits 202 black/blue motors. And I went through the sticky in this section and had a quick look.
186 202 holden 6cyl electronic distributor torana - eBay, Other Car Parts, Accessories, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 10-Oct-09 19:37:22 AEDST)
Where would I pick one of these up? Best of going off Ebay or trying somewhere like Commodore Shop(Newcastle Commodore Wreckers) instead?
And finally, what do I need to replace other than the dizzy itself (Should i replace leads/coils etc aswell?) and Also had a bit of trouble deciphering the which cable goes to where on the + and - side of the coil could someone give me a quick rundown?
Cheers
That will do the trick nicely.
You dont have to, but I would recommend "servicing" the ignition system to get full benefits. So ideally you should replace Coil, Rotor Cap, Rotor button, Leads and plugs.
Cant help with which wire goes where as my VK is long gone, but I have posted it up here before, its exactly the same as when putting it on the EST coil. Also remember to disconnect your EST computer.
um, the wires are -neg and +pos to the coil from the dizzy, then from the car to the coil is ignition+ (i think this one is pink) (which joins the dizzy+) and tacho (i think brown)(which joins dizzy-) i dont think there are any others, but someone might have joined one or two wires to ignition+ to run thermos or something, but i would ditch them if they were there and fine a good ignition+ in your fusebox.
buy a 10 dollar test light b4 you do anything to your car, that 10 bucks could mean the difference of you coil working or "running out of smoke" lol.
my ignition guy replace the ingniter pack b4 he works on anything cos they are the first things to fault (other than the cap etc as tom mentioned) its not hard, just 4 plugs on it and some thermal grease underneath which needs to be reapplied. i think the igniters are around 20 bucks new. thermal grease you can get from a computer store, its the stuff that goes between your CPU and heatsink.
Thanks for the infoGot plenty of thermal grease, Work in a comp store so yeah no need to worry!
grab the efi version they have a better advance curve
