im just wondering if anyone can tell me what motor will fit in my vh wagon, so far my options r possibly a 253, or a 350 and what would be best i want the 350 any ideas? ive currently got a BLUE 202 sitting in it
VN or newwer 5 litre or stroker efi would be one of the best balances between power and cost and rooting about. Just about anything will fit but the more you move from Holden based power plants the cost goes thru the roof more and more.

well see i might be getting either one of those two motors 4 free with an auto trans to go with it, but u reckon they should be easy enough to put in?
Why not the 350 chev?
hmmm, would the 253 still go alright?? and how much would the one your tlking about cost me to get done?
Yeah - the K frame might be different (may need to research that one). Cost to me??? enjin mounts, zorst and rad.
Cost to you? shitloads if you have to pay somebody to do it.
Reaper
no, no, no no , no and no. 253 will go crap. but as reaper said a lot less stuffing around.
even if you got the 350 for free, horsepower to dollar you will still end up putting a 308 in cheaper. pick up a 308 block and trans for 700. full rebuild, balance rods crank, flat top pistons mild street cam etc $2500 total. no new k frame but upgrade front springs (for bare minimum. you need to do brakes and diff really but can dodge it)
350 will need the same spring up grade, then 2650 for the conversion kit, THEN rebuild the engine. or not. whatever.
The unleaded 350 chevs will pass the VH epa ADR but getting all your paper work collected and proving your case to the epa and all that. And having to run a stock unleaded smog mode 350 chev, it'll still be alot slower than a injected 304 so go with the 304
i got 304 185i and auto gearbox loom cpu lsd ( needs an axle replaced ) extractors v8 front susp
pretty much all u need for conversion $2500 the lol
well i'll have a look and see wat i can get all i remember is the 253 and the 350 but if i can get the 308 thats sounding pretty good to me, my mates got a lot of v8's sitting around his place so ill try and get a list of wat i can get and forward it onto u guys
The 253 will be alot easier. My suggestion is to find a VC-VK 5L thats running great but bad body wise to swap all the running gear from. Even though your 253 is initially free or cheap, even a simple factory conversion can add up money wise if you need exhaust etc. By buying a VC or VH, almost everything should be bolt on, wiring should just plug in. It sounds like your first attempt. I'd suggest taking digital camera pics close up of all bits being removed from donor, where wires go in bay etc etc so when it comes to putting it back together, its easy. Another tip is to have a large piece of cardboard, draw an outline of engine bay on it, and everytime you remove something off engine etc, put it on corresponding spot on cardboard. It will make job easier if never having done it before...
cheers the problem is i havny got space anywhere for another car plus the old man wnt let get another one, i dnt mind speding a couple of grand anyways
8/71 supercharged LS7, the skies the limit, as long as you dont need a bonnet
k-frame doesn't need to be changed - same part for 6 or 8
I realise you already have a 253, but 308's or 304 are fairly cheap these days and you can get them to go well without spending a lot. Conversion is very simple and cost effective if you stick with the Holden engine. 350 Chev would be more mucking around than it would be worth, and then they are still a crap fit
Go the 304 efi
I picked up a VR 304 and auto box for $1200 came with ECU harnesses and engine mounts
All you need to make it fit is;
a VC-VK V8 radiator (about $200-$300)
T700 transmission cross member and tailshaft (cost me $80 2nd hand)
and an ignition module (about $90 2nd hand)
You'll have to change the diff to a V8 one, the 6 diff will only last for so long

yeh the 308 is looking to be a good option i dnt have the 253 or the 350 as yet they were just good options if i was to get the 308 with the trani and all that how much would i be looking at spendin??
bollucks all really. you will need to get the springs off a V8 (from the wreckers) 50 bucks and the engine/trans mounts. maybe 100. that will get you by for now. then if you wanna do it legal like, brakes and diff.
thats all i can think of, ive had beer so im useless right now. cant even type.
Im going through the same thing at the mo,have ben offered a 308 with flat top pistons and a few other goodys for 400 bux.But its in a wb statesman. Is there much to be changed about to get it into a vk?
wb would be turbo pattern yes? if so you will need that trans cos VK is trimatic.
I think is turbo pattern however wana go manual anyway, either celica box or t5.Which is the best option?Whats the diff between the v6 an v8 t5s?
no idea. i have heard the best box for an old girl is T350, but everyone seems to be going 700's on here. transmission scare me. trimatics are simple and brittle. just get yourself a nice powerglidei have one and love every minute of it.
Fair enuf, thanks for your help.Ill keep thinking. All this stuff seems to be getting fairly hard to find over here
