carby or fuel problem, check lines and filters, and maybe the carby needs a carby kit through it,
EST happens on mine as well, as far as i know its just one of those lights that come up on startup, like the airbag on new cars..
not sure on the rust, if you confident enough and it is thin then you could be able to do it your self
my est lights up aswell i dont know why either though and as for the spraying ur better off doing it yourself cause i couldnt find anywhere good in s.a so i did mine myself
Electronic Spark Timing is the analogue computer module that manages your ignition timing in VK carb models. It, along with its sensors and wiring, is 25 years old next year (2010).
The lamp on your dash is telling you that one of your sensors (or its wiring) has failed or become intermittent.
There are four sensors that relay data to the module -
Temp - mounted on your thermostat housing.
Vacuum - inlet manifold tube to unit under fuse box.
Throttle Position - micro-switch mounted on carb.
Crank Angle - hidden up near your flywheel.
Even if you replace all of these sensors/switches, the wiring and connects have been in your engine bay suffering heat and corrosion for a quarter of a decade. And you still will have no control over your ignition timing.
Do yourself and you engines efficiency a favour and upgrade (lol) retro fit a HEI distributor from an earlier blue motor.
I would say your 1st problem is heavily related to your 2nd.
Have Fun!
No problems ari, thanks.
I just condensed what I have found at this site and others.
I'm still trying to weld an extra 2 pots onto my IL6 tho, just to keep you happy. ;-D
jonno - only 3 things to it. Sender unit (on head, drivers side near firewall), your dash gauge and the wiring. Easiest one to check is the sender unit. Don't take it out while your engine is hot. Swap for a known good one or new.
