Hey guys, im really keen on putting a 4 point stainless roll cage in my vk for Summernats 2010, just wondering if anyone has already fabricated one of these them self and still has some specs/measurements of their cage?
I want to do stainless tube following centre pillars and over front seats with a cross brace halfway down, then 2 tubes running roughly from centre down to parcel shelf, this is for looks only and not designed for engineering standards...
If anyone has had experience with these please let me know and also if any problems occured,
Cheers
lol, are you serious? why the f' you wanna do that? you gonna race it?
look at cams race cage rules and modify it to your needs
Mate
And if you use full rolls and paint them black you won't need to pad it.
Pete
Even if it wasn't a show car i still probably wouldnt even think about doing this to your "standards" ....... pressure packs on poo tickets just doesn't look the part.....
I've always liked the look of them and whilst mine is getting a full re-trim im keen to take the oportunity to try something thats going to look good
try ringing mcdonalds bros racing in thomastown victoria, they might be able to help you out

Why bother posting this?
Point is, I sit here and laugh at allot of ideas people come up with... but unless i can actually help... I don't post...
Yes it was funny so go and put it in the jokes section under a quote thread, quote the op then add your funny response...
Or are you just trying to boost you count with b/s???
I have often thought about a simple half roll cage out of stainless just for the looks...
Only thing that ever stopped me was the cost.
I could prob measure all the lengths and angles you will need if yo can let me know what diameter pipe, and a few more details.
There was a nice blue VK in street commodores a while back that had one, and it looked good.
I agree we shouldn't post junk in the forums but with all seriousness, toilet rolls WILL give the desirable affect that the OP is looking for.
On other hand if you find a local guy who can weld and ask and provide all the material he can probably put it together for you since you don't really need it done properly then it will do the job.
lil mickey
im in light fabrication myself so i can do all work required but yeah, it was my mate in the SC mag a while back in the blue vk, he bought his as a bolt together alloy kit, i'd be lookin at prolly 2-2.5" s/s tube with mandrel bends...
Thanks,
i think most people need to think before they post.
most of you just have a crappy old vk,, at least greenvk355 has a 355 motor to back it up.
good luck with the role cage mate.
my cage will be made up in feb out of s/s but it will be done professionally so if you want to wait until feb lol
LOL thanks mate, i've got plenty of tradies in my workshop to help out but just thought i'd ask what i thought were "car enthusiasts" lol
not sure yet whether to go with aluminium or s/s but i think it'll look sweet with the leather thats goin in now, and also the vk is far from a crappy old one, unless a crappy old one comes with 355, 9 inch, leather, manualised auto etc.....lol
ha ha all good mate, i had a look at your ride thread and f%*king nice vk mate.
i never meant to imply that you were the one that had the crappy old vk just thought it was funny that most of the people having a go at you have crappy old vk's ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
the reason for me putting the cage in is because with the new motor i don't want to run slicks and risk bending or kinking the roof lol i need to strengthen everything first then its full noise lol
the new motor is a 383, sorry but i don't realy want to say cam and other specs on a open forum lol but it will be very nice lol
the current motor is 308/ cam with a few bits, nothing to flash lol
ah k fair enough mate, i think that'll be the next thing i do. new engine with all the good stuff that mine lacks...lol not that im complaining just a bit power hungry
if your going to cage it do it to spec from the correct material then it wont kill you if you crash/roll over.bolt in chromemoly cages dont cost to much really least then its legit for any motorsport that may happen along in the future![]()
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
Cage came up good and sits really well with the new cream leather....might get pics up soon
Except that chromemoly has been banned in most forms of FIA motorsport because it's dangerous as fark, there's very very very few people in Australia who know how to weld it properly (of which none are actually cage builders....), brittle as hell, and is a self hardening material meaning that it can develop cracks of it's own accord without impacting anything...
It's only a matter of time till CAMS follows it's parents foot steps in banning CroMo...![]()
