Hey,
I just installed a 2 1/2 inch Lukey Exhaust and Lukey Extractors to my 202 blue motor. I think i may have a problem with lack of back pressure because, when the engine is cold it has very little power in low rpm, and even when it is warm, i dont think it has the power it should have in the low rpm range. Although it is fine at high rpm.
I was wondering if a sports cam might fix my problem? If it would help, how much do you think it would set me back $$, and would it be worth the money.
Thanks
Aaron
It sounds about normal, the idea for extractors is to produce power at a higher RPM range, the size of the exhaust you have put on the car is too big for a stock engine anyway, really you would deen a pretty wild 202 for an exhaust like that.
Im talking engine with, wild cam, big valves etc
Before you go making the car worse, what do you want the car for, daily driver, hoon car or weekend warrior type of thing?
If you go and put in an agressive cam, do the head work it will be a pig to drive in traffic, i have been there done that. It would go pretty well at WOT flat out through
Also is fuel economy or lack of a concern for you?
cheers
Scott
Well, its a weekend warrior, but i use it to drive to work through the week. Fuel economy isnt to much of a concern but i dont want to be going through **** loads of fuel just to get to work.
Thanks
Aaron
ok,
If you want it to go I would suggest something like the following cam
IN.40/74
EX.78/36
inlet dur 294
exh dur 294
inlet .050" Dur 246
exh .050" dur 246
Inlet lift .507"
exh list .507"
112 lobe separation
It will require roller rockers and a serious head job with big valves and either a bigger carb or EFI with high flow injectors, at least you will make use of the exhaust
Flat out would give you around 350-400 out of 83l combo of around town & highway around 400-450/83l
really if your looking at all performance out of a 202 you really need to consider rebuilding a 202 to suit the application, balenced bottom end, good rings & bearings, light weight pistons, good rods.
cheers
Scott
Thanks for the detailed reply. I am not really after huge power increasees, i onyl really brought the exhaust to give the car a good note, so i am not to worried about all the high performence stuff at this stage.
I just wanted to make sure first that the lack of back pressure is going to cause any damage to my engine?
