Default Dent in engine bay - what's it for?

On the drivers side inner guard in the engine bay, there is a dent there...what the hell is it for? It looks bloody horrible and I think I will pull it out and smooth it over when I do up my bay. Somebody said they think it was to make it easier to change plugs on a V8 or something?

there was a discussion about this a year or so ago nd someone posted a pic of the Opel senator (which is what commodores are copied off) the air cleaner comes out of the engin on the drivers side and the dent is for the funnel to clear it.

It was huge and it worked better than the a/c in my vt untill i ripped it all out to put a stupid chev in there and couldnt get brackets to suit the bad bit about it was it took all the 253's power to run the bastard!

I had the same problem with my old 253 HZ. If the air was on and you hit a hill, it died. That compressor must have sucked 50% of the power out of the motor and when the motor was old and tired, there wasn't 50% to give.

    YouTube - Cold Airco

Its the Harrison A6 pump, use on many many GM cars:early Commodore,s Opel Monza/Senator,Chevrolet Camaro suburban and many many more, even Jaguar and Mercedes used that compressor.

Thats my Monza with the same huge heavy compressor as on that old carby holden V8.

I think its funny if its because of the Opel Air filter. Wouldn't it have been a hell of a lot easier to change the air filter setup than dent the car? I like the aircon explanation better haha. Either way, when I do up the engine bay I think I will pull the dent out anyway. :-) Cheers for the comments.

pull it or bog it, your choice, i hate seeing the dent in commys in car mags, it looks really dodge when they have a really clean engine bay, no wiring or nothing and this fat dint in the strut

yeah, have you seen the paintless dent puller on here... modify that, get a toilet plunger and fill it with hot glue, put it on the dent and PULL

*facepalm* Why wouldn't you just do it the same way they fx hail damage and weld some little lugs on, heat it lightly and pull out on those. Toilet plunger? haha

Haha that shut everybody up. That's a great idea and I'll be employing that...however to get the right shape at the end I'll be pulling as much of it out as possible because I want as little bog in the engine bay as I can get away with. :-)

the skirts has alot of strength in it,
you will have to shrink it as it will be streched from the dents shape

with mine i cut lines lines in it to remove some metal and welded it back together

although its a vl it had the same dent/s
