    Default Ticking/Knocking Noise - Confirmation?

    Hey All,

Quick story with the VK Wagon, Over the last week or two there has been a tapping/knocking noise coming from car, I dont think it is engine related as it sounds like it is coming from the centre area of the car.

It started off as a intermittent, barely noticable ticking/knocking noise, however over the last few days it has gotten worse.

I havnt had a chance to take a look underneath, but from what I can diagnose from other posts being similar it could possibly be something along the lines of

    - Uni's?
    - Centre Bearing?

It doesnt occur on idle, or when i accelerate at stationary. And when I speed up/slow down it slows/speeds up respectively.

    Any Ideas?

Its done about genuine 75k KM's?

    Cheers,
    Dean

Yeah thought it would be something along those lines of centre bearing as it happens even when im not accelerating just braking and it slows down with motion of the car.

From previous posts they are around $30-40 for a centre bearing (its a 6cyl tailshaft also) that sound about right?

center bearing would make the car shudder and get worse and worse at higher speeds. check simple things first i.e. you MUST stick your head under there, (for all we know there could be a plastic bag wrapped around your driveshaft), then wheel nuts, tyres (look for stones embedded in the tread, they can stay there for ages and its a really annoying ticking), brakes.

after you have exhausted all the free stuff, then look at stuff you need to replace. i cant imagine a center bearing would be that fun to change on jack stands...

p.s. a good test is to get someone to drive for you, with all the windows down get them to drive you around and change seats every so often turn your head left and right front and back in each seat. that will give you an exact idea of where the noise is coming from. cos' sounds can get rebounded off all sorts of things like other cars/walls etc
