Hello
i own a vk commodore as in the picture below got it for $500 dollers, not running
towed it to my dad's friends place and got it running, drove it to my place and am having all sorts of problems
i think it had a points dizzy in there then they changed it to electronic and didnt do it right and have stuff up the wiring, not really sure looks preety dodge tho
i've had to replace alot of stuff just to get a road worthy and its still playing up, my dad is having alot of trouble trying to tune it, keeps backfiring and backfiring through the carby itself
i love the shape of these cars and how the ride so i dont really want to sell it and have probley spent more money then i will get back for it anyway
was just wondering is there any one at all close to brisbane or caboolture area to come and have a look at my car and point me in the right direction of what to do about it, what to do to get it fixed
cheers.

wish i could but im not in the area. GL with it
I can help but i am pretty flat out for the next 2-3 weeks.
Have you checked that the dissy was put in right ie on top dead center and that all the plug leads are in good shape? also check your cap and rotor button for cracks and any excessive movement.
Is it a 6 or an 8? i
Yeah dad moved it so piston one wad top dead centre, got new leads and will check the cap and rotor button tomorrow
and its a straight 6
was talking to a guy on another forums and i think my jets may be to big in the carby, he told me to get the number off them and the number is 31 if that helps
did you change the coil when you changed the dizzy? most points dizzys have a balast resistor and the coils are not interchangable. if you get it running long enough, i have heard that the coils will explode
mec715 or hec715 bosch are the best for stock hei dizzys mec is a male top hec is female and they are about 60 bucks.
whats with the jets suggestion? did you mess with the carby? what carb is it. personally i would be looking only at the things you messed with that stopped it working and worry about jets when its running.
well its a 350 holley and i mentioned on a different forum that it seemed like it was flooding, even tho the mixture screw's was not that far out, and some1 suggested that maybe the jets are to big? and he wanted the number and the number is 31
i bought a new coil, its a electronic dizzy, use to have points apparently but the ppl i got it off said they put it to electronic and most ppl say they came out with electronic, so maybe they put points on and took the electronic off, then went back to electronic =\ not sure lol
*update*
car is running, timing wasn't right, but i still think the jets that squirt the fuel in the carby are a bit big, but i am not sure if i can buy separate ones from supercheap or something?
cause its running pretty smooth execpt while idling u can hear a lil backfire every now and then
any thoughts?
Thoughts? I got a couple for you.
Half way down the page, read this guys ideas -
How To Build A High-Performance Holden Six
For those playing at home, for a street driven IL6, have a look at these secondary bores -
http://www.bur.st/~oljohnno/images/carbs.jpg
"Various throttle bores compared. Clockwise from top: Stromberg single throat from red 202, Rochester Varajet from black 202, Weber from XE Falcon, 350 Holley. Varajet flows a bit more than 350, the Weber just a tad less."
I've been pulled over 3 times in the last month. Should start charging admission.
"Good Cunstanoon Afterbull"
"What's under the hood ?"
"85 Straight Six"
"All your emission's there?"
"Original Varajet, Sir"
"On ya way then"
Can't help you with your Holley, coz I'm a law abiding motorist.
I'd start by trying to determine the age and condition of your carb and maybe putting a kit through it, so you have a base to start from.
* Hope those hotlinks work, if not, I'll come back and sort them.
Cheers & Beers.
looking for mechanic
they are usually found in most workshops around the country
If its got Wheels or Boobs its gonna cost ya money
I can only speak for myself, but I reckon that most of us knuckle-dragging freaks that put up with these 25 year old plus girls, would rather bang our own heads on the bonnet catch, than pay $90 an hour for some apprentice to "get the feel" for them.
Not having a shot at you at all, but isn't that an ECU I smell?
