Swapping over my 4sp man to a 5 next weekend and was having a bit of a look under at what needs to be done, all looks pretty straight forward but i was wondering if its possible to squeeze the gearbox out with out taking off the exhaust.
It looks like it will be a tight fit otherwise and the studs and nuts look pretty much rusted solid so i would rather not touch them unless i have to.......
Any help appreciated.
ill see how i go, worst comes to worst ill have to take it off.
yeah you will have to take of the exhurst. i did mine just a few weekends ago and had the same problem with the nuts and bolts rusted together. they will proberly just end up breaking off. its prob best to replace them anyway. good luck with the removal.
the flange type just hit off, dont they? then replace them with a bolt.
yeah thats it
Ok, i have been able to remove my gearbox and put it back in with out touching the exhaust, dunno about yours but mine is 100% stock and i had heaps of clearance. So it can be done but it may vary from car to car.
Yeah when I changed my VC from auto to manual I had no dramas at all with the exhaust.
Four commodores and counting.
The 4sp would bolt up to a EFI six but unless you drive it like a granny it will break as it's torque rating is maxed out behind the standard carby 202. You better off buying something nice and strong that has a good feel to it as well like a 5sp Celica box. Also being an auto there will be heaps of annoying little things to change.....
Floor plate.
tailshaft-possibly
speedo cable-possibly
flywheel.
you'll need a clutch.
and a manual pedal box etc the list goes on
