i need advice on my rims. i have 17X8's on a VH and i think they will scrub. i will attach pics and i need advice on what to do. spacers is out of the question. cheers
If you can turn the wheel lock-to-lock and it doesn't touch then it should be fine. If you are worried about it hitting the spring seat on the strut then remeber that it doesn't move. As your suspension moves the hub/strut combo basically stays static and the spring and shock do the work.
I'd be checking it again if you get tyres with tread though.....and on a VH it may pay to look at some 225/45R17's instead of 235/45R17's
cool, thanks for the replie, there smaller tyres yeah???? sorry dont no much about rims and tyres. and also on the back when i go down a gutter i can hear it scraping!!! any advice there?????
i have 17's on my vk with 245/45's and they dont scrub, bloody close but are fine
yes...225/45R17's are smaller, most VH's had a 205/60R15 standard which makes a 235/45R17 illegal as they are 16mm bigger than standard (i know it's only 1mm bigger than legally allowed, but illegal nonetheless).
As for the rears...you'll have to get under it and find out whats scraping... too many variables.. Is it a wheel weight? Rim Scraping? Tyre on guard? Do your shocks still work? Have your bumpstops disintegrated?
its the tyre rubbing against the body. so for instance if you take off the tyre and look straight there is a mark. do i not worry about it or do i do someting about it??? cheers
Changing tyre size will help slightly...is it rubbing the top of the tyre or the sidewall?
the sidewall with the top of the tyre.
sorry. okay when you take of the wheel there is scrub marks directly in front of u. so if you r looking at the side of the car with the wheel off then u can see the scrub marks. would take pics but is 40 degress outside so too hot. lol car isnt lowered
Does it do it on the other side of the car?
yeah it does
but only when you go over speed humps and gutters it does it. not when you are driving
thats weird ive tried 235/45 17 on my vb and dont touch anywhere by a mile.
haha yeah... i think i will just leave em on and hope for the best lol thanks for all the advice guys cheers
check the condition of the bushes in your rear trailing arms and panhard rod. If the bushes are stuffed, the axle will have more lateral movement. I had the same problem with my previous VH. Lowered it and fit 225/50/16's and they would scrub on the rear guards.
However after replacing the rear trailing arm bushes with nylothane, the srubbing stopped.
yeh he probly has ***d shocks i have 235/45/r17's on my vk on the rear is stage one lowered with pedders sports ryders the only time ill get scrubbing is if im going quick and go over a bump etc but my rear shocks are ***d soon to be replaced its all about the money its all about the dumb dumb ditty dumb dumb lol
the panhard rod wont be needed really unless your car is dumped on its ass
