Gurus,
I have an 83 VH 202 SL commodore with the newly installed 10 bolt Salisbury diff hanging from the back end in the garage at the moment but I have a problem.
The tailshaft I was told I needed to go from the standard trimatic gearbox to the salisbury yoke is a VK V8 tail shaft. I eventually found one but when I went to install it today I came accross a problem.
Starting from the back: the yoke fits fine (which was my previous main issue) and the rear section of both tail shafts are the same length. Unfortunatly the front half of the VK shaft is about an inch too long and won't bolt up to where it's supposed to be mounted.
I thought it would be an easy fix though. Just swap the rear sections over right? Wrong! The bolt pattern on the V8 is 5mm wider that the 6cyl one. bugger. Next try was to swap the center sections over. basically reuse the VK center section and fit it to the back of the original tail shaft. Didn't fit either. Different sizes again.
The only thing I have left is to get the VK front section shortened by but I don't know any reputable places. I know how to use the yellow pages so no smart arsed comments please. Anyone know a good place I can take my gear to? I live in the northers burbs (Oakden) but I'll go anywhere to get what I need.
Thanks.
