    Default Vacuum gauge

heys guys today while hauling a full car of my mates around my car started behaving quite sluggish now i know youll say its cos your cars full of your fat ass friends now before you say that when they all got out it is still acting sluggishly and not taking off quite as fast as it did and i think its going through petrol quicker aswelll because the vacuum gauge is higher then where it usually is when i did drive test on it?? any thought on why this might of happened?

    Cheers

I guess we are talking 202 here EFI or Carbie?

So your getting more vacume correct?
Does it perform the same cold or hot?
How is the car looked after service wise?
    ie plugs, leads, dizzy etc
Also how does the car idle?
    What fuel do you use?

    cheers

yeah est. yeah its higher than it should be ie. when im driving normally at a steady speed its usually at 5 but its like 3-4 now. and yeah so far its going all the same i turned it on and off to see if that would change and checked the carbie for obstructions but none found and nothing seems to be out of place. servicing is fine it pretty much gets serviced every few weeks when i put it in to get leaks fixed from how i bought it i check the fluids every other day pretty much and check the filter every week so far. plugs are new leads and dizzy are original. it idles a bit weird cos of this weirdness. i use caltex vortex, not 98, with flashlube

    For starters
From memory I believe the vacume guages are numbers 0 being no vacume ie WOT 8 being no throttle backing off down a hill etc.
So if your has a lower number (less vacume) I would be first looking for a vacume leak.
Start with cracked hoses, the plastic treesthat the vacume lines attach to the intake manifold.

Also Vortex is only 96 octane oyu should be running the car on a higher octane fuel unless the engine has been setup to run on regular unleaded. You should be running it in a 98 octane fuel such as Vortex 98, shell optimax, BP ultimate 98 or the mobil flavour i think its synergy 8000 or something like that.

    cheers

Yep, scott is right, VK's run like sh*t when on regular octane petrol. You need the higher octane fuel..

Prehaps look into replacing your leads if they are original.. prehaps it isnt sparking correctly due to worn leads..

thats all ill have a look at my leads today and maybe replace them when i get some money in a bit and i spose thats good news about the petrol, not for my bank account though with regular unleaded being up at 122.9 where i am (central canberra) . so do you guys use the equivalent of vortex 98?

I use Shell Optimax. Runs like a charm, but its usually on LPG which is fully compliant with the octane requirement, so..

I hear that Shell released a fuel thats like the old super.. check it out.. might help..
