    Default What diff?

We are doing a VH up for a drag car on a budget. It's for the wife so we are not going big HP to start of with. We have everything but a decent diff. It's currently running a 253 diff.
    My current options are,
    1. spooled 9" diff
    2. spooled VL 28 spline turbo diff

    Possible
    1. Fit spool and 28 spline axles to the current diff.
    2. Spooled VN-VS diff

Not sure if VL 28 spline parts will fit into my current housing. I have been told they should.
I know the VN-VS diffs are 50mm wider but are the trailing arm mounts the same?
Be nice to no whats interchangable.

how much power you thinking of making?? if your not going huge power, look at getting a 10-bolt salisbury from a 308 vh. straight swap and will handle more then enough power. the vn-vs borg warners will mount up fine, just have to shorten them like you said.

thatd be the way to go if you can get one on the cheap, they are a little wider then the vh's but if its for drags you will be running stockies? so shouldnt be any problems, may have to shorten it if you run wider rims though

Hard to get gears for a 10 bolt. Easy for Borgwarner and 9"

The price is the reason for not chosing a 9". I can convert a 25 Spline VL diff to a spooled 4.11:1 28 spline for $1200 using custom Moser axles. Bloody near indestructable up to 500-600HP. Just have to find a cheap 25 spline disc brake VL diff. Thats why I wanted to know if The VH Borgwarner is the same as the VL 25 Spline. I already have a disc brake VH diff.

well the yolkes are different, i always thought the VLs were 28 or 31 spline, no idea what the VH is. very true that salisbury gears are almost impossible to get. i wouldnt bother with one.

hang on, the VH 6 are banjo aren't they? and the 8 are big salisbury but drums.

i wouldn't even consider it unless your going for BIG HP. you wanna keep things light as possible. a spooled BW78 is your best bet. plenty strong. put it aside and keep it for later maybe

i'd go for a VL diff. i'd stay away from a VLT diff as people seem to think they are gold plated and charge accordingly. if you find one cheap that cool though. otherwise a VL V8 diff is just as good.

the big salisbury is a good bit of kit but getting a bit rare, also the 2spider LSD units are a bit weak. not sure if you can get a spool for em either. if you can then i'd consider that as an option also. i have a complete spare under my workbench

Salisbury is out as they are to hard to get gears for. VL V8 diffs dont exist and when the pop up they are going for the same price I just paid for a 9". This is going into a drag car so we will end up ramping the power up over the next 2 years. Or sooner if I end up driving it. :-)
