Default the VK's elusive accessories wire.

so can anyone tell me if the famed accessory wire actually exists? i mean is there anyone that can turn their radio on without having the ignition set to the 'on' position.

i have tested pretty much every wire in my car and i have failed in finding it. and if it does actually exist, then how the frig does it work when there is no wire (in my car) on the ignition that lights up when the ignition is turned one click forward? every wire on my ignition is either ignition on, start, or neg.

and why would they even make it so you turn the key one click forward to achieve nothing, then another click for ignition on, then another click for start. why not just get rid of the first position and have one click for ignition on and one click for start. ?!? ?!?!

blaaah, VK wires make no sense.

I have 4 positions on my switch.

    1. Acc
    2. Ignition Off/Steering Locked
    3. Ignition On
    4. Start

Sounds like your 1st position is Acc, but you have no wiring attached.
    Weird.

from the point where you enter/remove the key, you need to push in and go backwards (away from start), it is a retarded setup and a total bastard to actually get to.
If you find the ignition wire, put it on a switch, that was my plan but enver got there with mine.

When I installed my head unit, I patched into the factory radio loom via the existing plug for Constant and Acc power.

The wire colours weren't standard (red & yellow), but a test light sorted that out.

    Works fine on Acc.

yeah my old barrel used to go backwards, but i put a new one in cos' you could start the car without a key. this one doesnt go backwards at all.. there is a definate 'click' when you turn to the first position, but no result from any wires, its only when you go to the next one they fire up.

so... maybe an adjustment somwhere in the barrel to make it go backwards? does the VL have the same type of switch on the column? could i look at switching a VL one into it?

also, i dont suppose you know what colour the acc wire is?

I had that problem recently when I went to register my car - the mechanic said I need a new barrel as you could remove the key when the engine was running (who cares I said.....). Anyways I went to the locksmith and they replaced and recoded the barrel but when I got home I couldn't turn it backwards for accessories so I took it back and they modified it so I could. I think they had to file down something but not 100% on that.

My key comes out as well.

Handy when I'm checking my letter box.

What did the locksmith charge? If you don't mind me asking.

No worries. Ball park figure is fine.

ari - Just went to have a look and forgot I have since installed a Hi-Rise console out of a VB SL/E and a Hurst Pro Ratchet Shift. Not so easy to get at any more.

Unfortunately NYE & Xmas have destroyed any chance of me remembering as well.

LMAO! nah no problems mate, thanks for the look in. i think i may have inadvertantly stumbled on the answer thanks to your replies

my key DOES turn backwards, you have to fight with it a bit, but when you do it turns the car to the 'on' position. so i am thinking that the same hack that thought the cig lighter was constant + probably joined the accessorys wire up to an 'ign on' wire somewhere in the circuit so when it goes to acc it powers up everything, thermo fans, fuel pump, coil etc etc

alls i gotta do now is strip pretty much everything to find out where. great.

oh, and changing the barrel isnt that hard. you gotta put your key in the ignition, turn it to the first click forwards and you will expose either two little holes or a long thin strip (i cant remember which one), stick some welding wire in there wriggle it around for an hour or so and the cylinder slides out

    done.
