    Default Advice Needed!

    Hey guys,

I was driving my VC to work this morning and got sideswiped massively by the local garbage man in his truck...

The passenger side front door and the window, the rear passenger door and a bit of the rear quarter panel have been pushed in pretty far, and the frame in between the two doors has been pushed in.

I havent had a chance to get it to a panel beaters today, do you think it will be written off? Should i buy it back off the insurance company if it is? What do you think?

Your advice would be much appreciated! Cheers MkyHnly

frame? as in, the B pillar? the bit between the two doors? if that has been pushed in you got buckleys of fixing it cheaply.

soz to be the bearer of bad news, but yeah, pics would be useful.

Mate That would be a write off unless its a genuine Brocky. Start looking for another one.

Hey guys, here's some pictures I took yesterday when i got the car back home. I hope you can see them, let me know if you can't.

And ari666, yes it is the B pillar. The roof just above the B pillar also has a crease too.

    Thanks for the support guys.

I'd have to day its a write off, unless its a brocky as said before, depends how much the insurance company want for it to buy it back, i'd probably say yes and strip and sell it

its not too bad, pick up two new doors from the wreckers, you will have to pull out the sill, hopefully those two dents are just dents and not folds from your pillar being pushed in. the main thing is the roof looks ok to me from the pics. any chance you could take a shot of the pillar with the two doors open? especially the bottom.

hopefully itll be repairable so far so good.

Depends on what the insurance company says.
Mate had his VS hit in the front end and the guard, bonnet, bumper bar, door and radiator support bar were all damaged. Only had 3rd party but that doesnt mean anything, lady that hit him was at fault and he got it repaired.

Supposibly if it has 5 panels damaged it's a write off..
Also the sill needs to be straight to be road worthy and the b pillar as well I would suspect.

You might get lucky and have the garbage truck company repair it with their insurance.

Hey guys, heres some more pictures of the B pillar as requested. I have also included a picture that follows the line of the roof, and it shows the buckle of it above the B pillar. Hope this helps you.

It was a very clean car, I got it from the first owner, an old lady, and it was garaged its whole life. Such a shame that I only had it for a few months before this happened.

The truck company claimed full responsibility, and they have full comprehensive insurance (thank God!) Does anyone know how much the VC's are worth... if I were to get a pay out?

    Cheers

Shit man, was the person that was supervising you ok? If it is a write off i would buy it back, get two new doors from wreckers or classifieds. I'm not so sure on the B pillar dint though, maybe it would be best to get a quote for that and the roof first before you buy it back. From what i can see in the pic the roof looks repairable. Good luck

Check here for a rough price on the VC.
This is what insurance companies use when insuring vehicles.

The supervising driver had shoulder issues... as the truck pretty much hit him. Myself and my brother (who was in the back seat) were fine. Wasnt a good start to the morning (it happened at like 7.50).

I would like to buy it back, it is my first car and really enjoy driving it.

Red Book says between 800 - 1500, what price would the insurance company pay out then? Would they go for the smaller price or the larger one?

    Cheers

Probably look for another car. Start saving. Hope for luck to get a repair on the beautiful VC.

yeah sorry mate, that little tiny dent in the roof means shes a write off. seems strange, but that is one of the strongest points on the car, tryin to pull it out is almost impossible.

and try and explain to an insurance company that because your car was immac and 27 years old that its worth more than redbook value! never gonna happen. the best you can hope for is 1500, but i really hope you do better than that, if you got 3k id be happy with that, considering it wasnt your fault.

and redbook is gay, it lists my impala trade in value as 1k -3k... they are selling on ebay between 15-20k. but thats what yards and insurers base their quotes on. i think it is linked with vic roads etc and how much people say they bought their cars for (saves on stamp duty if you say you got it for 1k)

anyways, once again, sorry mate and i hope they give you a fair amount.

    Thanks for the support guys.

This was granny spec, constantly garaged, 223,000 on the clock, no dents or paint blemishes, full original interior with no cracks or tears, went very well and started first time. I had a fantastic VC, I don't think I will find another one that will top it. As you said ari666, the insurance company will just insure it under redbook, but I hope they will recognise that this was a one-of-a-kind VC and give me what it is really worth.

It is doing my head in, getting it evaluated tomorrow afternoon, I just want the ordeal behind me.

    Cheers

Thanks mate, this car I have known for a while, and it is my first car, I wouldn't be lying if I said it had some sort of sentimental value. I'll definitely give it a shot.

    Cheers
