I Would Steer well clear of pro comp....everything they make is all chinese, very bad quality and fails. This is info coming from experianced engine builders. trust me mate they are junk.

Look for a yank or aussie branded set. May be a bit more expensive, but they will do the job properly.

are you dead set on the VN style? cos yella terra make a set for cast. other than that stock VN alloys are the go. take them to a head shop, get 1.6 and 2.08 valves if they dont have them already (old heads have 1.95 inlet i believe). get them flowed on a bench and you will save about 500 bucks. 500 for a pair of 2nd hand heads, 1500 to get flowed, big valves, double springs etc. VS 2500 for decent heads which may need to be cleaned up anyway.
how many more threds do we need saying pro comp are SH*T?
BAD COP!! NO DONUT!!
Have a read here: procomp heads, here: VN heads or 355 stroker kit ?? and here:
Procomp ??? for various opinions of ProComp. The overall gist is that the cost of the metal you get is very cheap. The overall performance reflects the cost.

anyone else see the ebay listing where the bosses for the k-lines actually came out of the heads when the guy took off the seals? rather than the k-lines going all the way through, it looked like the came out level with the spring base, then they added a little boss to the top of it to look like a normal k-line. the listing has been taking down now, prolly cos' of defamation but was a very good lol.
and yeah greenfoam, the price of the heads isnt stopping me, the stupid brand new pacemaker headers/edelbrock performer manifold isCBF buying them again (or installing new extractors AGAIN, third time). i am adamant that someone out there MUST be able to squeeze some flow out of the ol' cast girls. *i know, i know*

They are an evolution really. The VK group A heads had casting problems which was a major cause of many a blown head gaskit in the race cars. Not using the super high octane jungle juice that the Europeans used was the other. GM fixed this problem with the VL batch of Brock bits. Most street cars are never pushed enough for the problem to rear it's ugly head but hey why not start with a good base.
VL heads are the end result of a long evolution that started with the L34 heads in the mid 70's. From there get the die grinder out and spend a lot of hours cleaning them up. The problem is that it takes a ton of work getting them to flow even slightly better than an untouched set of VN heads.
To be honest I don't know anything about the YT heads mentioned above - they might be a cheaper answer and an overall better solution if you want to keep the old style Siamese ports but you'd need to research that one yourself.

personally i dont see $2500 for YT's as a "cheaper option" and TBH i want to stick to the cast iron option due to the reason they *flame suit engaged* extract heat better, and work better on my whole "extraction velocity" principle which didnt really work... but i havnt given up on yet.
i swear cast are better. i just need a few hundered grand to prove it![]()
