    Hi all , to all you guru's i am putting a 308 into a 6 cylinder vk commodore do i need to get a new gearbox and diff or are they compatable it is a automatic calais 85 model

    You need to change the transmission and diff to either a turbo vl or 10 bolt salisbury. Something stronger. Rear disc brakes would be advised too as well as a brake booster upgrade.

    id even go so far as to change the springs and shocks to v8 items to suit the extra weight of the v8 block... but thats just being particular not much of the six cylinder stuff will last under the stress of a V8

    Being a Calais it should already have a disc rear end. You'll need a different box to suit the 308, but the diff u could prolly get away with for a while.

    you can get away with the diff. dont worry about it, just dont be silly with the 6000rpm 0kmph's

    thanks guys im nearly 40 so my burnout days are over, does anyone know suppliers of vk hoodlinings and carpet maybe someone online or in nsw

    ooh, not nsw but knox carpets in vic can post, and they have been the cheapest i have found so far.

    they have an ebay account too.

    Yeah look on ebay. There's a guy that does hoodlinings.....and I got my new carpet from Knox (from their ebay shop) for $120 + $20 postage.

    Im about to undertake the same project with a VK royale but its the EFI model..Anyone know where i can get wiring diagrams from?Is there a seperate engine wiring loom like in the VHs that you can just unplug from body loom or is it all one loom?

    If anyone can give me the full run down on the conversion from a six to a v8 in a vk commodore im new to this so any tips would be extremely helpful and appreciated

    have totally gutted car and removed motor and gearbox now searching for a new motor i have checked a site online and seems like the 3 speed trimatic is the same in 6 and 8 cylinder vk calais is this correct or am i wrong please confirm

    Your bellhousing is obviously different and the torque converter is definently different, but they may have more heavy duty clutch packs in the v8 or the shift valves may also be different. An expert will know
