    Default dizzy

I have a electronic dizzy hooked up to the black 3.3 done 200,000 plus Ks
How much (if any) freeplay can I have if I twist the rotor button forward and back?
There is no side to side or up and down freeplay.
I suppose the cog has to eventually wear out or as they are nylon can they never wear out.
When I put the timing light on with the engine running my timing mark will jump a few degrees advance or retard. What do I need to look at?Thankx.

When you twist the rotor button you expand the centrifugal advance springs. Makes it difficult to check play in the gear.

Sounds like an EST setup to me.

You timing light is showing the ECU varying the timing, which you cannot change.

If there are no centrifugal springs, I'm guessing there is no vacuum advance module on the side of the dissy as well?

Yep thats right,no advance springs or vac advance but the timing light shows advance when reving up but the timing mark seems to jump around the mark(8 deg BTDC).at idle

With your EST the small amount of play on the drive gear doesnt effect your timing as long as your dizzy is set in the right position. with EST a timing light is as good as useless as you cant alter the timing anyway.

you still control the base timing by turning the distributor - just like an EFI 5L, otherwise you could fit the distributor 180 deg out and the engine would still run - which it doesn't.

EST only controls the advance. If you move the distributor only a small amount, the EST will advance or retard the timing to a point (hence the timing remains the same), however if you turn the distributor far enough it will advance/retard the timing.
