hey guys,
I recently got my boot, bonnet and one door repainted as a result of rust repairs by a local panelbeater. Now, in natural lighting, it looks a little darker than the original paint (firethorn red - dulux code 10981), this is to be expected due to deterioration of the existing paint (acrylic lacquer), and I find this somewhat acceptable, if not brilliant. However...it turns to orange under fluro lighting, if not quite so much is defenitely a shade (almost) lighter.....i am thinking it has too much yellow in it (the yellowy nature of natural light causes me not to see the yellow so much when it is outside). Does the fact the new paint is probably a 2 pak rather than acrylic have anything to do with this colour shift? Can it be rectified? I am already taking it back for there was a small area in a door jamb that was missed, and the bootlid paint has started chipping......any thoughts??? from anyone??? The original paint, on the sides at least, is in excellent condition and is not at all oxidised....
believe it or not, modern 2pac red has flecks of real gold in it, even if its solid red. thatll be your prob. old school red is just flat red. and flecks of any kinda stand out from the paint colour under fluro's cos' of the UV factor.
ok then....that is strange, why have gold in it? anyways, am i to assume that there is nothing that can be done unless I get rest of car done in 2 pack, or the repainted panels redone in acrylic?
have decided will get rest of car done....
update - car is done! only took another 4 weeks in the shop.....and another $4000......paint is now completely redone body is P-E-R-F-E-C-T. Attention now goes to the console, the door trims, and the column housing and the steering wheel horn pad. will then be complete.
Will take the VB to university tomorrow. Am most fortunate that the campus I attend on a daily basis lies at the bottom of Mt Panorama in bathurstafter I am done for the day may take it for a lap or 2.....
Yes Charles Sturt University is located on Panorama Avenue Bathurst. I am undertaking a primary teaching degree there. In fact from the foyer of the building where most of my lectures are I can see caltex chase, skyline and mountain straight.
The commodore does get around; I have a peugeot 306 that I normally use for university commuting (600km a week) but I use the commodore 100-150km a week in running about town, to the pub, gym, shopping etc. I occasionally use the commodore for a longer trip to give it a run.
Here in the country VB grilles are in abundance at wreckers, it may be easier to get one from rare spares. They retail them for about $67
