I was thinking about purchasing a 1984 Manual Commodore VK SL from a neighbour of mine for about 4 grand. It is in pristine condition inside and out and has all original parts. I was just wondering if it is Possible to change the Square-Like speedo to a circular one, such as one from a VL? If so, how much would it set me back?
Also, would it be possible to install power-steering into the old VK? If so, what materials would I need and roughly, just roughly, how much would it set me back.
Power steering is pretty easy to put in if you have all the parts for it, ie rack pump reservoir lines etc. as for cost i couldnt tell you, reco racks are about 230 give or take. go to your wreckers and find a car with power steer on it and ask for a price. You can put in a vl dash relatively easily but you'll have to find out of someone whos actually done it to know all the little differences.
For 4 g it would have to be a 5sp man youd hope?
How many K's on it? Has it got A/C? Has it been garaged all it's life by the one owner? As others have commented 4 g's for a six pack SL is top money - make sure it has no rust!
For 4g as state above it would have to be mint, i paid 2500 for a mint VK berlina 308 trimatic with AC, the only let down is that the clear coat on the bonnet has become a bit unclear. Get some pics for us!!!!!!!!
Just wondering why you would want to change the dials? I think the square ones are sweet, very retro and out of the ordinary not like your standard round dials. If your worried about how they look get a white dial kit fitted, wouldn't do it myself though as I really like the VK dash!
