After googling for days and hearing mixed stories about the difficulty of installing the shifters, im wondering if anywhere here on JustCommos has put one in .. And could gimmie a rough guide on how to install it ?

We got one to go in my VK wagz...but haven't put it in yet. Ya can get the brackets to suit the trimatic off of ebay for about $30. Get a bit of tin plate and cut it to go over the trans tunnel hole, and bolt the shifter to that. Haven't done it yet so can't really say anymore then that lol.

i have one in my vb it was a pain the ass to do but we made up a box for it to sit in so it sat lower other wise its pretty straight forward.

I put in a B&M Hammershift in my VC. Wasn't easy, but definately worth doing. When you take out the old shifter, make sure you have a pen and paper with you, so you can draw yourself a rough drawing on how the cable coils around underneath the gearbox under the car, otherwise inside the car you can do whatever you like, I ended up having to modify inside the cab to make it fit, as the Hammershift sat higher up then the original quickshift, and had to fill the gap up, so got checker plate and made it fit with that.
Looks pretty good.
Just make sure you take note of how things go back on top of the gearbox, as the cable actually loops around to make the shifting of the gears smooth and it doesn't get caught up or "trapped", that is the only bit of advice i can give you to be extra careful of, otherwise it's not that hard : )

as above, once u have the bracket for the cable at the gearbox end sorted (bolts to the trans pan near the gear selector) run a strip of metal bar across the top of where the old shifter was to bolt the B&M one onto. if u do it this way the new shifter sits up pretty high compared to stock.
if u have a welder and a way to bend steel then u could go to the trouble of making a box that has the B&M shifter sitting a few inches lower in the transmission tunnel, my mechanic made one up for a vk not long ago, it's not overly difficult just takes some time
mission to install and set up correctly but worth it in the end
the germans designed it, the aussies built it, the japs got it moving and the wogs got it dosing...
