Hey all, well some idiot crashed into my VL and is stuffed
but i was wondering if the whole running gear, engine, box, k frame and diff will bolt into a VB that i recently purchased?
im sure someone has already done this![]()
Yep sure will. We bought a VK with an RB30 in it, and I think everything was just swapped over. Motor, trans, diff, complete VL wiring, dashboard. I don't know if anything had to be modified to fit tho. Was one of the few cars we didn't strip out, but got rid of it whole. Really wanted to change diffs over coz it was LSD with disc brakes, but ended up getting rid of it as is....spewin too coz the next owner stripped it when it got defected and it had a VL turbo diff under it haha.

depends on how much you want to change, the turbo manual box needs the tunnel changed to fit, dont know about the auto or std 5speed,the dash has to be modified to fit all the vl heater and a/c,extra holes for the wiring harnesses, mount for the fuse box and power steer resevoir, modified gearbox mount due to the position of the cat on the vl,but the K frame, engine and diff all fit straight in and you also have to cut the top lip off the dash to fit.Hope this helps, cant think of what else needs to be done atm..

I have dropped an RB30 into a VH. Mechanically it is straight forward. You need to swap the K frame, steering rack, steering column lower half, battery is on the other side, wiper washer bottle, fuel lines, fuel tank, complete loom for engine and the car and it has to be modified, fabricate a new gearbox x member, diff, tail shaft, engine and gearbox, console and modify to fit the radiator. THe dash wash a nightmare. The air intake on the VL is on the left and on the VB it is in the centre. None of the heating and ventilation is the same. Best to keep the VB dash and fit the VL cluster with made up brackets.
THere are plenty of threads on this.
Good Luck.
yip ive just done this conversion took me 180 days. 3 months of which i was crippled with a broke foot lol. theres a fair bit to it if you want to pull it off properly. you could do a dodgey conversion pretty quick.apart from having to fabricate a gearbox x member everything else is basically bolt in.i used a complete wiring harness from a vl calais. bit of a mission to install but it works
the germans designed it, the aussies built it, the japs got it moving and the wogs got it dosing...
