    Default new carby flat spot??

Hey guys been trying to fine tune this new carby.

Std varajet recond unit and all I did was replace old one with stuffed choke for new one, everything else wired up same and I get a flat spot under 1/4 throttle to the point it would stall, but with a bit of tinkering got it to start and idle cold perfectly (that was old problem as it would run crap as choke stuffed), but now it is good under med-heavy load and idle but just as you put foot down I get a slight falt spot.

    ANY IDEAS?

I have called the company and they said to line up the ceramic looking switch on side properly so did it how they stated but how do I know if working? as it seems to make no diff in or out (on or off?) do these switches brake? should I replace this?

    thanks in advance.

PS I know it is carby as was not doing it prior to new carby.

You haven't received your manual yet, have you? =D

The ceramic-looking switch on the carby is the "throttle position switch" and only has a function when you are running EST ignition. It tells the ECU if the carb is at idle or not. Have you determined whether your car has the EST module bypassed, as I think it looks like you are running a HEI dizzy (from previous pics).

A stock black motor has the standard exhaust manifold bolted to the intake manifold. It has a joined passage to allow the exhaust gases to heat the inlet manifold assisting in fuel atomization. When the stock headers are swapped out for extractors, it takes a lot longer for the intake manifold to reach ideal temps and a flat spot/lag will result.

This may or may not be what you are experiencing, but be aware of it.

If you are not running Electronic Spark Timing, it certainly won't be the switch.

    what is that?
I have a maunal in the post so will triple check it all when it arrives.
I checked gaskets and there appears to be some slot in base on carby that are not on gaskets, maybe causing a slit blockage??

I basically pulled the old one off set all screwa etc the same and all wires/vacumm lines same

will see what happens when I get manual and go over it all again.

its a project car so I just tinker when I can

sounds like U may have put the wrong gasket under the carb.
The gasket with the 2 round holes and the slot goes carb.

    nah used right one!
mind you it just has the 2 big holes and one little slot at end of one hole, but the actual base of carb has 3 other small slots that are not cut into gasket.

Hi there, when you buy a carby rebuild kit they come with some gaskets for other types of carbs and you only use a few of them.Just have to make sure whenever one is replaced that the same one goes on.The anti dieseling is the thingo that sticks out towards the rocker cover side of carb near the back and to test it all you got to do is turn on ignition but not start the car and then touch the hook up point with the wire and take it back off and you should hear a "click",that's the valve opening and closing. This is designed to stop fuel flow to carb when ignition is turned off therefore preventing engine run on.

here is a pic of the gasket and the plate under carb.

I have decided to re-fit old carby and test if it does same thing (it didn't prior to coming off). only missing the auto choke but once warm ran perfect.

that way I can eliminate any other causes.

will see how that goes tomorrow.
