Brown wire to coil

I have a VB SLE which had a brown wire going to the + positive side of the coil.
Is this brown wire suppose to go to the neg - side of the coil for the tacho?

Tacho is not responding either way, I think it is burnt out.

from memory, yes. brown tacho wire to neg- side of coil
