Why don't you just patch the hole in the tank with some of that epoxy metal stuff. (I think the one I used was called knead it) I've used it on my rally car and is still there after 6 months without leaking.
i must say i am a bit hesitant to put this tank in, but my current tank has a hole in it that is slowly weeping fuel, and this new tank would only be a 'stop-gap' between me getting a custom tank and running twin dump tip exhaust.
think im just gonna stick some fuel in it, slosh it around fr an hour then flush and refit.

I had a hole in the tank of our VC 202 repaired at a radiator place in Bayswater, they cleaned up the surface up around the hole and layed a metal patch over the hole into a bed of molten solder, and solder around the perimeter of the patch, had it done about 2 years ago and it has been fine, I fill the tank to the top every few weeks so plenty of weight in the tank and it is tight as a drum. Every secondhand tank I looked at had rust in the same place as the leaking one I had, they rust in the lowest point of the tank where the moisture collects.
I asked how they did it as they used a flame to run the solder and I think they said they filled the tank with exhaust gas, the patch is about 100mm square, the hole was just a couple of pin holes. It didn't cost a lot either, I think it was around the cost of a secondhand tank. Been a very sucessful fix.
