Default how do i gain access to a VK fuel tank?

i just bought a fuel tank from the wreckers and the crap isnide it smells FOUL so i wanna get inside it to get all the nasty bits. i assume you can gain access, otherwise how would you change the fuel sender?

does it have something to do with this little sucker?

god, i stink like rotten fuel, f'ing disgusting. the car was on LPG so i assume the fuel itself was from 1985.

Not a thread really, just there is three notches in the tank itself. Dunno how to really explain it. You just tap softly, you know when its ready to take out. And nope, doesn't twist sender.

Are you sure you got a V8 tank? it looks like the one off an EST 6? They have to come apart some way as how else would you change a fuel pump in the v8 or efi's.

its off an efi vk. i know cos i helped them rip it out of the car. the v8's have a very small pump inside the tank and the efi's are all external. it doesnt matter either way cos i have a carter black pump, but i still need a working sender.

and the smell made me gag big time.

I would return that tank and swap it for another or ask for my money back. I think you will have nothing but trouble with a tank like that.

If only u were closer. We scrapped 3 tanks this week...all in pretty decent condition, just sick of hanging onto everything "coz we might need it oneday"....even dumped a few sets of front and rear windows (vb-vl)....I bet now we'll break one lol.

you might need to spend $100 or so and get a POR15 fuel tank restoration kit... google POR15.... but thats a shithouse tank to start with, the rest of the tank will be rusted up bad like that if the sender is anything to go by. might be better trying to get one in better nick to start with, pref from a car that hasnt had an lpg conversion, less chance of low fuel level and continual condensation in the tank causing rust. also you cant run the EFI swirlpot in a fuel tank when you run a carb, do some more research on this but it was discussed recently on brockcommodores. cut your losses now and dont waste money on that tank, try and pop the sender out of one at the wreckers and shine a torch in and inspect before you buy....
