hey guys,
do any of you know what torque settings i use to put my manifold and extractors back on?? those nuts that go onto the studs and the 1 bolt at either end of it??
i really need them before this week end or where i can find them!!
thank you in advanced!!

I have not long had to change the starter motor on our VC and had to remove both the inlet manifold and the extractors, our VC does have extractors, I doubt very much if you will even get a tension wrench any where near those bolts, I had to use a combination of ring and open enders to reach some of the nuts as some are in a real prick of a location, they are very hard to get to. I used a new gasket and coated it with hi-temp exhaust manifold silicon on both sides, I think it was a red stuff from memory, I got it from the exhaust people I got the gasket from, I did all the nuts up tight, but not to the extent of stripping them, drove it for about a week then spent 5 minutes and checked they all were still tight and all is sweet no leaks.
I do have a top of the range tension wrench but no way would you get it onto some of them nuts.
yeah i replaced my starter on the week end to my vh but did not replace the gasket and now i think i have massive leaks because the car wont idle.. i didnt mess with the carby i only took the fuel line off it and sat it on top of the rocker cover while i did the rest of the work..
does the carby have to me torqued when you place it back on the manifold?
i got a gasket i will be putting it in tomorow!
thanks for the help!!

I didn't take the carby off when I did mine, but if you have I would just make sure the manifold surface and the carby base are spotlessly clean, no bits of old gasket or crud, and just tighten it all down firmly and evenly, nip each nut up progressively, go round them several times tightening them a bit each time until the nuts feel nice and tight but not to the extent of stripping them. Make sure all your vacumm hoses and PCV valve are all plugged back in, have a listen around the head where the inlet manifold and extractors bolt on, you may have an air leak where the manifold bolts to the head, make sure the nuts are still tight, as I said I used a new manifold gasket and hi-temp exhaust silicon on that joint. From memory when I pulled off the manifolds the original gasket left a lot of crud and old bits of gasket on the head, so if you have re-used the old gasket you may have a leak at the inlet manifold, which would upset the idle.
okay thank you.i got a gasket set for it witch also has gaskets for the carby too. i will be replacing them tonight or tomorrow!
ill le tyou know how i go!
