    Default misfire,roughidle etc

a number of things have been going wrong with the vk recently
such as misfireing, rough idle, and their is now a bad exhaust knock,
now i brought it off a old bloke and when i drove it home it was fine and
after its road worthy and rego it was fine
and only about now its started happening
so i brought new plugs, oil, oil filter and a engine flush
do you think that will fix the misfire and idle..
or what would fix them do you think?
and also how do i fix exhaut knocking?
would i have to get a whole new exhaust or what?

Might just need some new rubber mounting things
    Where is your exhaust knocking??
My old vr had a larger exhaust and was knocking on fuel tank
Just a slight tap with the hammer fixed it

by the looks of it you've dropped the thing on it's guts - so make sure the panhard rod isn't hitting on the exhaust.
The adjustable panhard rods usually have a larger kink in the l/h/s of the rod to give the exhaust more clearance

yeh and you wouldnt be able to drive it on your p's...

im with darren. most common place for these things to knock is on the panhard, the next bit is the loop over the diff. a rubber mallet will sort it out.

as far as the misfire/rough idle goes, well you have the parts, i dont see why you wouldnt just fit them. in the time it took you to post this thread you couldve had them in

miss fire and rough idle are almost always an easy fix its a process of elimination. fuel and spark. change fuel filter and pull/clean down carby. inspect ignition system, plugs(fouled or old and burnt) check inside of dizzy cap check for excess build up of white scale and if present clean contact points with fine sand paper very lightly.

its possible your injectors are dirty, any performance mechanic or tuning shop can clean them out for you.

    re: rough idle.
throw a spanner over the intake manifold bolts. They have a nasty habit of working themselves loose, causing a vacuum leak which can cause a rough, unstable idle

like pull your finger outta your arse & do it

Hey jonno, can I recommend you buy a new quality cap , rotor button, as PC said , you can clean them but if the cotact points are to far worn it's pretty much a waste of time & all it takes is a"hairline" crack in the cap and it's RS - common problem after a service from my experience with some mechanics as they can be rough in putting them back on.
I replaced my cap yesterday alongwith a new set of high comp leads, cleaned out the EGR valve and it's manifold mount (both full of crap) and the thing is a totally differant car.

    Good luck with it

Mate, I just used Bosch supers with matching cap. The cheapest option I can think of is to take to your Repco store, ask for the most experienced person to come out & have a look at, see what they say, they know there stuff a whole lot more than Supercheap.

    Good luck with it mate

    Gr8 news jonno,
Just to let you know, repco are having a big sale on this weekend & I recomend putting penrite oil in it, as for coolant, in my experience go with Nulon long life concentrate, I gaurantee it will not over heat, as the guy's said, dont forget to have your heater dail set to max when draining the old stuff that'll keep your heater box / heater core spick & span.

    Cheers
