Ok, I bought a VK Commodore today, it's in great condition, especially for the money.
BUT
Today I stopped, reversed, and when I put her in neutral, she jumped backwards!
It's strange, when I'm in neutral It stays in reverse sometimes, and even when I change into forward gears occasionally! My old man reckons it's the linkages, has anyone else experienced this problem or does anybody have a guess what it could be?
Cheers,
what gearbox is in it? if its an M20 then yes worn linkages could be a cuase

itll be a m20 or m21 and yes ****ed shifter or linkages out of adjustment
Is it a V8, cause if its a six id be more concerned as all linkages are internal, manual that is.
Is it a Four or five speed? Either all im pretty sure they both have a little plastic bush at the bottom of the gearstick which could have broken. Pretty easy to replace. I know the 5 speeds do but would have to check my four in the shed.
Youll have to take out the console to see it then there is 3 bolts that hold it in place.
God-damn M20's. There only good point is that they're a piece of piss to overhaul. Seen these kits on ebay for a mere $80. Other than that, they're nowhere near as good as a single-rail. You'll find with your M20, it's either the shift bushes near the gearbox are worn "as they commonly do", or they're not set correctly. They can take some fiddling around to get right. You may even have an M20 out of a much older holden and not one out of something like a VB commodore. The VB had the best and most solid linkage and shift setup for all these old boxes. Run one of these, and they're generally not too bad. Still can't shift as quickly as what you would in a single-rail!.
Cheers!
