i need to take my car to the tint place tomrrow but it has no leads on it..
(long story )
so i got the firing order which is..
1-5-3-6-2-4
what does this mean though? like i dont understand at all
i need help ASAP PLEASEEEEEEE
1-5-3-6-2-4 is the order in which the cylinders fire. So 1 fires first, than 5, than 3. I have feeling there should be a mark on the dizzy cap to indicate which connection is for number one cylinder. By knowing which way the dizzy rotates and the firing order you can work out the rest.
Four commodores and counting.
I'm not sure if theres an easy way to find this out, but you'll probably need to get the number one piston on TDC (Top Dead Centre) Compression stroke, (or a little before - 6 or so degrees? lol)
I like to use a cable tie in the spark plug hole - (a cable tie won't scratch the bore like a screw driver might)
Then using the rotor button work out which point in the cap the rotor is at, and that'l be number one. Take note of which way it rotates when your finding TDC for the number one cylinder and work around the cap in that order.
Its been a while since I've done anything on an old girl, so I may not be right, but "I" think it's the way to go? lol,
Hopefully someone that knows 100% can get on here and give you the heads up.![]()
mate, i have no clue what you are sayinggg
ahh, i just tried and no good,
EDIT: if its on the wrong order will it still start or not?
because the 1st time it didnt start, then i moved the leads down one each and it fires
and its not misfiring anymore like it used to, does this mean i got it right?
Hahahaa...
Well if its not misfiring at all i'd say theres a good chance you've got them on the right waylmao...
Good guessing, if its not right it'l miss an run lumpy as a bit of shit, so I'd assume they're right!
Can you take it for a quick run, test it under load a bit?
i cant cos dads asleep and my neighbours allready hate me enough.. (im 16) lol
i copied this order...
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/7...ri6.jpg%20alt=
lol, 4.9L??
Its a big 6?!
They must all be a similar firing order/dizzy position on the straight 6's?
Good effort though, if its running with out misfiring I'd say you've got it right anyway.![]()
Hope this helps, pic of my ute. will be same as your efi black motor, 1 is bottom right the just watch were the leads run to from the distributor cap in an anti clockwise direction. See how the lead from the cap closest to the drivers side of the car down the bottom goes to cyl 5 then the next lead to cylinder 3 and so on.

if you take the dizzy cap off, there should be a little mark on the distributor itself that should be number one.
