I have a 3.3 carbureted vk motor and 5 spd box in an hz one tonne ute, I am wanting to as economically as possible power this motor up to handle towing a double horse float. I am looking at going the way of an rb30e turbo, is this the way to go, if so is it involved? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Put a 308 in it.
If you put any more power than stock through a 6cyl VK 5spd box it break. just letting you know.
I don't think the rb30 is really what you want for towing. You want low down torque for towing. Your best bet really is a v8. Even a 253 would be alright. What ever you do though you'll be wanting a stronger box. If you stick with the six, throw in a cam with a torque and economy grind, extractors, maybe some head work, an intake manifold with long runners, the vk injection manifold is good.

Four commodores and counting.
super charge the 6 ....
HZ 1 tonner from memory you could put a 350chev in it legally under polution regs, 5 speed with a 3.08 diff or 4 speed with a 2.78 it would be quite economical with the right cam, or a hoden 304/308 again same gearing with the correct cam would be your best bet.

really you can call crow cams and enquire about a towing camshaft for you motor, it will make the difference in rev range that you require, and a set of extractors may help with that as well. these modifications will not break your gearbox if the vehicle is driven sensibley. [/B]
*clears throat* did anyone mention that the banjo's in them are weak as piss and will go before the box does?
good point they are as weak as, but for day to day driving it might be ok
Being a tonner it should have a Salisbury diff
