dont ya hate it when ya travel 5 hours to the city, decide on a nice straight vk, engine only done 177000 clicks, fully stock so ya assume its last owner was an old guy and he had it for years. ya hand over ya $1000 wad of cash. ya got a big smile get litterally 10 mins down the road and ya hear a knocking noise then..............Nothing! managed to get it going. MIRICAL! got it to my uncles and decide to have a look. pull off the rocker cover and man that not a good sign! hard oil caked to the rocker cover! hard bits of god knows what all over the rockers etc!
i recommend noone buy a car from kerry garner in lonsdale adelaide!
thanx for ya time!
any ideas what engine i should put in it?
not gonna bother rebuilding it! its only a 202 after all lol!
Just get a second hand unit from the wreckers - few hunderd bucks and all fixed![]()
White 05 V6 VZ Executive - Thrashed Ex Telstra car
and 3 Dangerous non ABS VN's
what did you expect for a grand? i mean really. i just bought a 1000 dollar camry for the missus, didnt even check the car over, automatically assumed it would be f'd. got it up on the hoist, two bushes needed, 4 shockers and a new park light lense. i was HUGELY surprised it was that little. 500 bucks and she's reg'd and RWC.
a new engine (as mentioned) is cheap as chips, as are all the parts. find a cheap V8 VK on ebay or the wreckers and do the swap. you may as well since the motor is naffed anyway and you said the body was straight. you will have yourself a very nice V8 VK for around 3k.
sadly its like that with the old commodores, Athough i baught my VN a year ago and it was perfect, since then if fixed small things and chucked in a rebuilt engine. When i pulled appart the old engine it had no sign of sludge inside, you can expect a decent car for $1000. you just have to be carefull.
Didn't you drive the car before you bought it?
WTF! i'm shocked, how on earth did it not show the problems at that point.
Guy must of been heaps dodgy haha,
Look it's not all a loss i guess, as long as you can repair it you'll be happy with it, lets hope the body is as good as you say it is and not repaired to death under the paint.
Wheres the knocking noise coming from ,could be just the timing gears broken.
hey you guys know how to change the poxy economy dial to a tacho? my last vk had a tacho but this one got some fuel economy dial thing! i know it chews fuel! lol dont need a stupid gauge to tell me that!
lol yea mine pretty much just sits at red line! unless im idoling lol! do ya recon just swapping the gauges over would work? cos i still got the tacho gauge from my last vk!
Easy as to get the tacho in guys, just go to u-pull-it etc, get a vk berlina cluster, bang it in and your done. all the wiring is there
sweet so the eco wiring will do the tacho? i thought it would just makin sure! already got the cluster from my wrecked vk!
Yeah, i hate the economy guage in my Vk, its as if Holden were trying to make you feel bad if you have it in the red zone, problem being if its not in the red zone your usually not going anywhere.
sounds like a story my dad told me, back ages ago he was buying an EH, just as a daily, back when they were common, the car was at a dealer, going cheap, so he tested it, ran like a dream...
so he bought it, drove it about 10km's and the engine starts to sound like its dying and now smoke is pouring out of the exhaust..
turns out the dealer put sawdust in the muffler to stop the smoke for a short while...
ofcourse there was no warranty on the car..
haha yea its a pretty foreign word to most vk owners! i def recon im gonna go with a ecotech v6 in the vk! simply to give it fuel injection and there alot lighter and i like a light car! all these young nuts got there big heavy sound systems n shit! mad i dont even carry a spare tire unless its a long trip! little thing called power to weight ratio! another reason i like me torana! plus the short wheel base makes it tones of fun! should start a petition to get em to finally produce a new torana! mmm id have one for sure!
too many stupid ADR's now'a days to make a good torana copy. leave it dead. i love em' too and holden would just f' it up if they tried.
Just 4 the fun of it, drain the old oil, put some 2ltrs of cheap supermarket stuff in, and add 2 ltrs of diesel fuel into the crankcase, run at idle for 10 mins and drain, repeat again with the rest of the bottle of oil and diesel....
Will be pretty clean inside after this, and easier to find problems, hell it may even free up sticky items causing noise etc...
Believe me it works, did it heaps of times in the early 90's during my apprenticeship...
If I'm not pulling Toyota's out of the Bush, I'm pulling 12's in the Sig :-)
