hi guys, new here.
i love VH SL/E commodores, used to own an immaculate white one all original with the blue velour but a 6cyl.
anyway i want another one and am looking at a 308 5L but was wondering what the fuel consumption is like, say highway driving?
my main driving will be highway (100kph) with some hills.
i have had a diesel hilux 4x4 as a daily driver and have almost forgot petrol and carbys lol.
i know your prob saying if your worried about fuel forget a 308 but am just curious.
thanks fellow enthusiasts.
adam
fuel economy is AWEFUL. mine does around 250 to 60 litres but its a bad example.
thanks mate.
anyone else have any figures?
thanks
I used to get around 400-500 kays (highway) to a 63L tank on my previous VH mild carb 308 5spd, 3.08 diff
city cycle probably half that![]()
Edit: ignore the below, it's for a 202 not v8.
I know its a different car but similar in way I guess, I used to get 320km to a tank before change of spark plugs, filters etc.., I seem to be able to get 400-ish km to a tank now on the HX.
G'day, yep I luuurrrrv the VH SL/E also, have done since I was a wee nipper.
I get between 360 - 400 a tank on the highway depending on load and weather conditions and much less if I'm running the A/C - mine is completely stock except for Genie headers, so yeah not great but I don't drive it for the fuel economy!
thanks guys!
400 ish k's to 60L will do me.
have been looking at 2 nice SL/e's with 308's on carsales, motors have had alot of work.
would mean that they would be better on fuel than a stock 308?
thanks
lol, well you just need to look at my fuel consumption (200kms/60 litres) for the answer. big cam, stall converter 3.55 diff etc etc. costs you a tonne on petrol. plus the fact you have to fill on premium otherwise your faced with backing off your timing.
and good luck with 400kms too. that would be perfectly tuned freeway driving with a tailwind.
400kms is probably max for my SL/E having a three speed trimatic but I have achieved it on fairly flat and straight roads in cold weather. DarrenL had a five speed which I'm sure helped his fuel consumption.
Foot note: I used to get at least 450kms a tank out my old VH 4.2 SL 4spd man on trips to Queensland - it was all stock except for extractors and 2.75in exhaust no A/C.
Well, my 3.3 blue with the triples would barely deliver 400Km's to the tank, probably a bit less to be realistic. Whereas the original varajet II carbie on the old motor was doing around 700K's per tank. At the same time, the varajet just doesn't compete and i'm happy to use more fuel to have something that goes so much better.
Cheers!
