    Default Blue Or Black Motor

I am replacing the engine blown in my VH SL/E. I have to keep it L6 as i am going to be driving it on my P's. I was wondering should I go blue or black motor (carby)?

When you go black you never go back!

Seriously though - the blue motors were the most pollution strangled under powered pos since the grey's got the heave ho. Not saying the Black was particularly good however they were streets ahead of any blue. Hook up the pollution and you will have no epa issues.

Mods wise - plug in the fuel injection and it's about as far as you can go legally. Attach a snail and it will go great but it'll be hard to get it epa compliant.

Go blue and keep it original, get through your P's then put a V8 in it. The power difference between blue and black is bugger all (still a Holden six!) - IMHO.

im not going to pay 1 to 2 grand just to put a v6 in it. you may as well by a vs for that price! good old carby for the win. yeah im thinking of having a efi on the blue because the blue is less chocked by epa stuff. supposedly you'l' get an extra 20/30kw out of it if tuned properly. its ok now my dad has an sl/x wagon and has decided to put a v8 in it so i get his 202 while he puts in his 350 chev!!!!!!

hahaha yeah! the good old greogory manual. I was reading a Street Commodore Mag and the difference between the carby and efi was about 20kw standard!

According to the machining they are different, gregory manuals are a basic service manual they dont cover everything.

VK got a revised port design for better flow over the VH
The carb has holes in the head for the exhaust recirculation, EFI doesnt, you can machine down the small flat on the inside of the exaust port where it is on the carb to give better flow.

There are even subtle differences in the blocks if you know what you are looking for.

Most of the performance gains on the EFI was in the injection, Also the EFI 202 factory extractors flow quite well, I have cut back sets and had a 2 1/2 inch tailpipe off the secondary pipes.

I've got a 3.3 blue, that i've overhauled and re-bored 60thou with a load of mod's and sprayed black. It's got a crow cam and a neat set of triple SU carbies. The thing runs beaut, and feels real nice everytime i drive it. Since i've upgraded to the triples i've never looked back. By the way, the motor was original out of a VC that I used to own. The blue's great, and I wouldn't look past it.

The old girl's a real pleasure to drive. Quite often the misses will offer to buy me a newer car and i've always refused. IMO you really can't ask for any better. She may be near a 30 year old car, but she's all class!.

    Cheers!
