shaved door handles

lol iv always wanted to do it! firstly is it legal? secondly possible to do at home? and has anyone done it before? id be doin it on a vk! help and ideas would be great!

my idea is dont do it. VKCOMMO and i had a little chat about it around 8 or so months ago. the reason i would avoid it is that the LBS pressure required to open the door on a little "pop" solenoid would mean you would need massive brackets to keep it working for the years to come. other wise you can install it wil tech screws and the brackets you get with the pop kit and have to re do it every 6 months or so.

also dont forget that if it stops working you have no means of gaining access to your car. which would suck.

im sure i can come up with a better argument but im drunk and been at work since 9AM

I'd agree with ari, have seen a couple of vk's with them and they just look odd.

With regards to being legal, yes, IF you still have a manual way of entry into the doors, so basically you need to have rods running up by your window to allow the doors to be opened without the poppers.

yea ok nice argument. me and a mate had a go years back and were workin with an old spring and a leaver so when the doors were remotly unlocked it would spring the door open just enough to pull the door open! and for a backup have a wire in the boot that ya pull to open the back door!

I think with regards to the legalities the rods are for emergency services etc etc so they have some way of getting in incase you stack it.

lol if i stack it and need to be pulled out just smash the window! but use a brick or somethin cos i did a running jump and tried to break the drivers side and shattered a bone in my hand lol the window just sat there and i swear it laughed but that could have been cos i was drinkin :P

I wouldn't bother with the electric solenoid route, as ari has said, its just more to break...
Instead I've just extended the rod that originally went to the exterior door handle, out the top of the weather strip area (the base of the window) and at the moment has a valve cap on it - skulls, but I will put some stainless (dirt bike spokes) rods, like on my VY.

I did that about 4 years ago, its legal if there is a way to get into it from the outside - ie. 'manual poppers' as you aren't completely removing the door handle, just modifying it
But if the popo want to they can defect you, if 'they deem it to be unsafe' but an engineers certificate usually fixes this.

yeah i must admit i like the idea of having the release coming out the top of the door. that is one thing i ddnt think of. i am just dead against the popper' idea. sounds like a great way to lock yourself out and have to smash a window.
