Hey all,
I have a strange issue happening here.
I did 1000km in the car last weekend and the poor thing hasn't been the same.
For a few weeks before we left i noticed it was getting harder and harder to start the car, normally it started on the 3rd go where as before normally on the first or second.
When we got back car worked fine the next day, however ever since then it's been very sick
Car started i got it out of the garage, then it stopped, wouldn't turn back on again, it is as if it attempts to tick over (not like a flat battery sound) but can't get ignition.
It smells very much like petrol, when you keep trying for a few times, I've noticed that I've been loosing a bit of oil which seems to leak from the carburettor, as the air filter is on below it is a flat metal lining and somewhere below that oil is spitting out all over the wheel arch and below where the engine mount is.
The car wont start unless i leave it for an hour or so and attempt again, once it starts it doesn't stop, unless i stop the car, if i turn it off and then want to start it again say after 5-10mins i have no hope.
If i leave it, it works fine.
WTF could be causing this?
I've made sure that their is a good connection everywhere and i can't really see an issue, I have a feeling it has something to do with that oil / petrol spitting out over the wheel arch.
I can post pics / video if needed.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You

terminals seem fine, mind you I haven't checked the fuses, could a blown fuse cause something like this?
New spark plugs and leads before we went away.
Start Motor seems to be working just fine, Before this was happening 8/10 times it would start first go.
Hope this helps a bit.
sounds like carbie rebuild time, is it worse when its hot? like if you drive to the servo and get fuel it wont start at the servo?
smell of fuel in the engine bay sounds like the carb is sticking and flooding the engine. you may find its using more than normal amounts of fuel as well.
cheers

Hummmm crap!
Actually it's worse when cold, I noticed that when the engine is warm it's a bit easier to start.
If the carb is sticking will some cleaning agent help a bit?
Fuel usage wise it was very good when we went away 400k to a tank easy.
What do you think the leak could be? If i uploaded a few photos would it help?
Ok are you still running the original EST? If so could be the EST playing up you know it stands for Electronically Stuffs TimingElse it could be the electric choke on the carbie playing up.
Dont stress if the carb needs a rebuild the hardest thing is getting the float level right couple of hours to do the job. you just need a carbie kit.
If it is running the EST, do the universal fix and put in an electronic dizzy, try disconnecting the choke and reconnecting it see if it makes a difference, if the choke is playing up i will grab out my manual and have a post the page about it.

Well being a HX (i'm sorry i didn't post this before).
VKberlina: It doesn't have an electric choke but I do have a pretty big electrical fault in the car currently.
dannyssveute: If the fuel pump were to be leaking, where would it leak the fuel? In to the carb?
