Guys, just a query before I head off to work.
I recently purchased a reconditioned EFI head. 6 new exhaust valves, all new sleeves and a surface grind of unknown amounts.
How do I tell how much has been removed?
And has anybody used "umbrella-type" valve stem seals instead of the pissy little "O" ring style?
My old timer mate says that old V8 heads have a reference cube on the head that is an inch long from the factory and therefore gets smaller as the head gets machined. Anything like this on the I6 Holden heads?
Cheers.
Best way to tell is actualy get the heads combustion chamer measured in CC's that way you know exactly where you stand.
Some of the older heads people used to measure from the casting on the coil mount to the face of the head.
Yes i used to run Umbrella style stem seals, they were actualy teflon seals and never had any dramas.
These ones you can get from Crow Cams and various place and are much better than the stock Umbrella ones.
Bear in mind the valve stem wont get any splash feed of oil cause of the great seal so its advised to run some upper valve stem oil mixed into each tank of fuel to help with lubrication.
