Does anyone know how to make you original fuel gauge work for lpg and petrol. i have a under dash switch that tells you how much is left but i want to see if i can at least get the petrol sender working on the dash. maybe even both. any ideas?
yeah. first you need to make sure the sender in your LPG tank is the same resistance as the sender in the petrol tank, if it is, then you can hook both senders up to your LPG switch, so when you flick to LPG itll switch off the petrol sender and change to the LPG sender, and vice versa.
sorry im a bit lost about what you said
so am i
the way the petrol guage works is it sends voltage to the tank and the 'sender' in the tank resists the volts depending on how much fuel is in it. the then reduced voltage is sent back to your guage and the amount of volts at the guage determines where the needle sits. so (all these figures are guesses not fact) lets say 12V would display a full tank, then 6volts would be half a tank...
SO, your LPG tank will have to work on the same principle for this to be successful. so if your petrol sender is 0-90ohms, then the LPG would have to be the same, other wise the needle on the dash would be incorrect. but if it was the same, what you would be doing is cutting the voltage return from the fuel tank and replacing it with the return from the LPG tank by flicking your switch.
making more sense now?
haha thanks mate makes more sense now
