bit of a funny story and im kinda pinchin myself right now! ok well as ya all prob know i been tryin to pull the old tape dech out of me vk. do do this i pulled the instrument pannel out to get to it! while i had the instrument panel out i decided to swap it with the one from my old vk, simply because it has a tacho instead of that stupid eco metre. now once i hooked it all back up i thought id test to see if all the gauges work, cos the engine was runnin shit i had to keep an eye on the oil pressure, temp etc and i wanted to see if swapin em over would actually make the tacho work. so anyways i started it up and could instantly tell it sounded dif, checked the gauges and they all seemed ok. even the oil pressure was up about a quarter so off i go i get to the end of the driveway and take off nice and easy! still lookin at the tacho which went up to about 2000rpm but sat there! decided to give it a poke in the guts to see if the tacho would unstick and i was like what the **** it took off! not like a v8 runnin nos but compared to what it was like i was amazed! took it down a nice straight road and gave it to it listenin for that tapping nois i been hearin..... gone! all fixed! lol well there ya go there is my days story! **** im good just ask me!
ok now lets be real! anyone have any idea what might have happened?
hahaha lol thats so ******* funny!!! so im guessing you got the deck out? i felt your pain about a week ago!! could be just gremlins and you scared them away...how knows.. just make sure you keep a close eye for the next few days or so just to see if your luck continues!!!!
lol yea ilput some vodoo on it or somethin to keep the gremlins away! its totally weird but! n i just dove it to get the kids and still no worries! i and pushin it too hard cos i know the internals are worn to the max so its not gonna last too long anyways but at least it feels a little reliable! im drivin to mums friday for mothers day which is an hours drive normally so will be interesting to see if im able to do like 100 or so instead of 80 tops!
What did you do with the vacuum line for the vacuum gauge? If the gauge was leaking and you blocked the line off then you fixed up a vacuum leak which could explain the improved performance.
Four commodores and counting.
lol didnt do nothin with the vacume line! its just tucked in behind the dash!
lol thats just it i didnt fix anything mechanically! i changed the speedo, n all the gauges etc and she decided to run great! got any ideas ari?
I don;t wanna rain on anyone's parade, but if you have left the vac tube hanging off the gauge, all you have done is create a vacuum leak.
Are you running EST or HEI?
Done an economy run?
Maybe your idea of running great varies from mine, but give us some more details.
um it is electronic ignition but not efi. what other detail ya want dude? wouldn't creating a vacuum leak make it run worse not better?
well, if it was running too rich, then a vac leak will make it run better...
so mayb i need to give the carby a little tune up? i not real good at that lol give me some tips!
ok il get a carby kit! will puttin a screw nice and tight with some super glue fix the vacuum leak?
just a screw will work but make sure you dont break the tvs so it makes an even worse leak. get a screw that is just that little bit bigger then the hole. im talking a diameter of maybe 1-2mm. nothing bug but just enough to seal it lol.
lol i aint completely stupid mate. il plug it up tomorrow! cheers guys!
maybe you nocked a earth or somthing back on
will be interested to hear if it gets worse after plugging the vacuum hose leak ...
